That has been an important focus with all parties involved in the construction of Qestral’s exciting new Coastal View Lifestyle Village in Nelson. Hamish Race, Schick Civil Construction’s Nelson/Marlborough Manager, says the ability to adapt and work collaboratively has been an important part of the success of project. “The whole construction team, including the Qestral team, engineers, architects, builders, and landscapers, have been really good to work with. The quality of the project is a major driver for the client as it is to us. With our mission to deliver excellence, it provides the client with a positive construction experience.” From its Hamilton roots, the company has grown from twelve employees to a team of over 300 in its Hamilton Head Quarters, with branches in Christchurch, Nelson and most recently Blenheim. “We have a team of sixty in Christchurch now and January last year we were engaged by Qestral to undertake the civil works on their Schick Civil - staying grounded lifestyle village in Nelson. We have now opened a branch in Nelson with a range of other projects in the area. In June last year we went to Blenheim to do the Blenheim sewer upgrade and we’ve now opened an o ice there.” With a diverse range of skill sets and capabilities within the team, Schick Civil Construction’s projects are wide and varied from three waters, subdivisions, civil structures, foundations and large NZTA projects. “Getting on with the job is what we love doing; staying grounded while keeping a sense of ambition for ourselves and every community we serve. Another project we currently have on in Nelson is a commercial site works for a new medical centre, which involves building pads, foundations, drainage and pavements. We strive to be better than before which means we can tackle wide ranging projects.” From a background in civil consulting and then civil works in vertical construction, Hamish has been with Schick Civil Construction for four years and says he cannot picture a company with better values and purpose. “The company also looks after its team and all its stakeholders and knows how important that is.
