Initially a mechanical engineering based business focused on delivering material handling solutions, the business has evolved into a mechanical and process engineering solutions partner. “We design, build, install and commission turnkey projects and machinery with innova- tive solutions to meet the customers’ specific needs. Turnkey solutions are the delivery method of choice because they enable our clients to own the process from start to finish.” Bryce says further benefits include strict cost control, a higher level of innovative de- sign, and the shifting of risk. Whether the project is designing a substan- tial process plant, or the client is faced with a specific challenge requiring custom machin - ery, Vertex Engineers is equipped to help. In 2019 Brickhouse Technologies was acquired, adding an environmental arm to Vertex’s business portfolio. With its headquarters in Hamilton, Vertex Engineers operates throughout New Zealand with a focus on materials handling, food & beverage and water & wastewater projects. Across those three areas, a highly skilled and professional team includes mechanical, process, automation and electrical, chemical and environmental engineers along with ex- pertise in project management, construction, health & safety and business management. In October last year Vertex Engineers successfully tendered for the replacement of a ‘Clean in Place’ (CIP) bay for a large South Island food manufacturer. The bay is designed to clean supply vehicles entering the manufacturer’s plant when deliv- ering product. “The tender process, which included the CIP bay’s design, ran right through to March this year when we received an order for its imple- mentation as the lead contractor. “The new CIP technology will introduce additional safety measures, meet current manufacturing recommendations and will be simplistic in its design with ease of buildability a key success factor. It will also incorporate a few sustainable technologies like electric boilers.” A large civil component required before commencement of construction included ground testing where the plant will be built to ensure its integrity and to understand any challenges that needed to be addressed. With that work now complete the civil contracting team is currently working on the ground footprint, and construction will com- mence in May. Bryce says the project is required to be completed, commissioned and handed over before the end of the year. Engaging local subcontractors has been a key project consideration, both as a response to the pain felt by local businesses as a result of Covid, and as an assurance that when Vertex Engineers hand the completed project over the needs of the food manufacturer will continue to be supported. Aspiring to be the best engineering solu- tions partner for its customers, Vertex brings a wealth of management and technical expe- rience to projects along with innovative flair delivering value with excellence. “We understand competitiveness and oper- ate under the principles of lean management. We don’t have all the layers of management that large multi-nationals might have. “ In the case of the CIP plant, we have designed a solution that is fit for purpose, uti - lising a team of people who are experienced in CIP – some of the best in New Zealand. And we have been able to demonstrate that we have captured all of our client’s needs at a competitive price.”
