Being lexible to meet the client’s needs and building solid relationships have proven to be the foundations of success for Sam Hartwig, who started the Smith & Sons Renovations & Extensions West Coast franchise in 2019. Starting with one other employee, the business has continued to build upon the company’s success, establishing a steady stream of repeat customers and referrals from those happy to recommend the West Coast team’s quality workmanship. “Success is also well supported from our local building supplier ITM who deliver and provide outstanding business support, getting things done without the hassles of larger suppliers. Sam says, since Covid the building market has been strong and that is likely to continue for the next couple of years — perfect for an enterprising young company determined to make a di erence and adding value to their clients. Based in Greymouth, the Coast’s major town, Smith & Sons West Coast operate throughout the Coastal region undertaking a diverse range of Smith & Sons – West Coast residential and commercial projects. “Residentially we do a lot of renovation and extension work, which is Smith & Sons’ primary focus. Bathroom renovations and re-roo ing are key markets for us. But we will be doing two to three new builds each year, including design and build work. In the commercial space we’re mainly doing manufacturing and industrial renovations and extensions and just starting to get into new commercial builds.” Working with Vertex Engineer’s to deliver the Civil works on an upcoming Tanker Wash project for a local manufacturing business is just one of the many commercial projects on the go and is exciting times for the business as it develops within the commercial market. Sam brings sixteen years personal experience to the building and construction industry, as well as a passion for providing customers with real value. “We’re one hundred percent driven by value, and o er more than just a price. For example, when we do bathroom renovations, we have a portable bathroom trailer that we lend to our clients at no cost, so that they have a workable bathroom while theirs is being renovated with a second unit currently being manufactured to meet the demand of our clients.
