Elite Hardware are proud to support Nordzco Joinery A rguably, the kitchen is the revered en- gine room of our homes where culinary delights are created, hungry families fed, and the social gathering hub where sto- ries are told and cunning plans made. At the heart of these hives of activity is good design that reflects our lifestyle and the way we like to prepare food — and that is where Christchurch firm Nordzco Joinery enters the picture. “Listening to the customer is the most im- portant thing our designers have to do first,” says General Manager Wayne Melrose. “It’s about understanding the customer’s lifestyle and how they will use their kitchens.” Nordzco Joinery’s journey started in 2017 and has grown rapidly from a four-man opera- tion to a team of thirty-two including design- ers, project managers and a skilled factory ensemble. Eighteen months ago Nordzco Joinery moved into new premises to accommodate growth. The moved allowed the business to work from a blank canvas planning the factory layout to suit the most modern machinery available. “This has given us a very efficient and highly skilled production facility. We custom make our products and don’t rely on a standard cabinet range.” With one of the company’s directors living in the Queenstown Lakes District most business initially came from that region but the Christchurch market has steadily grown with product now supplied throughout New Zealand. “We supply multi-level apartments, commercial developments and group housing with a focus primarily on new builds. “The bulk of our work comes from develop- ers and we’ve just completed a hotel in Auck- land and one in Wellington. We did the kitchen joinery for the Sudima hotel in Salisbury Street, Christchurch. We’ve also done a couple of school and childcare fitouts.” Projects range from high-end joinery through to more affordable joinery and while the bulk of projects are for kitchens the talent- ed team undertake a diverse range of joinery projects to meet their customers’ needs. “We have the latest 3D software, which ena- bles great flexibility to manufacture high-end products with ease,” says Wayne. “Sometimes the client will come to us with a basic layout and our design team will put a plan together with dimensions and materi- als. But mostly the client will present us with plans for a kitchen, which we will cost. We may suggest a few changes to the design and fine-tune it with the customer before it goes to manufacture.” Wayne has been part of the journey from the very start and with many years’ experi- ence in the joinery industry has been able to hand pick his team of craftspeople, with team culture a key driver for selection. “The team we have is very passionate about their craft and have a very strong work ethic. “Our approach is to exceed the customer’s expectations with our designs and craftsman- ship but we employ on personality before skills. “The team not only enjoy their work, they also enjoy creating something for the custom- er and the look on the customer’s face when their expectation has been exceeded. It’s about creating an environment where every- one wants to come in and be part of it.”
