This was a technically tricky project with a high structural steel component, but project manager Simon Guthrie says everything came together very smoothly. The hub of this home is the big open plan lounge and kitchen on the ground floor. The kitchen is a showstopper and won a Registered Master Joiner national award. The ground floor also includes a small hallway, spare bedroom, laundry and a bathroom, fully tiled from floor to ceiling with gorgeous Moroccan tiles. Shiplap cedar cladding in three different sizes was used to finish the exterior. “The guys on site, along with the owner, came up with a pattern that would work and this goes all the way around,” says Simon, add - ing that another stunning feature of this home is a massive 140mm Garapa deck wrapping around three sides of the ground floor living area. As the country went into lockdown last year, Bruce and Jax faced a lot of uncertainty about where the market was headed. In fact, the phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the end of lockdown. “We’ve been very busy. People are moving to Kaikōura because they’re realising they don’t have to work at work – they can work from home, and that means they can work from anywhere. “For example, we’re working with an archi - tect from Auckland who is living in Kaikōura full-time now.
