72 | F rom an early age, there was never any doubt that Steve Koller was going to be a builder and a natural progression of that was the formation of his own Havelock-based business, True Vision Construction, in 2012. But what is truly remarkable is that the tight knit team Steve has assembled includes three of his closest childhood friends - Richard Hague, and brothers Michael and John Leslie. Including two apprentices, the team have mastered the art of working well together while still enjoying each others company on the golf course or out on the water fishing. “The success of the business comes down to the team and we pride ourselves on the quality of our workmanship,” says Steve. “I’m very lucky to be working with friends as well. For many people, working with friends is quite hard to manage but we seem to have a pretty good way of doing it. T “here’s obviously something in the way we manage that relationship or who we are as people.” Mainly working throughout the Marlbor- ough region with some projects extending into the Nelson/Blenheim areas, True Vision Construction’s diverse range of projects include farm buildings and effluent systems through to high-end architectural builds, and everything in between. Light commercial work also keeps the team busy and Steve has two contracts on his desk for two new council toilets. No longer the old concrete block bunker types many of us grew up with, the newer models are all high-end architecturally de- signed toilet suites. “We also do a lot of maintenance work for Outward Bound. But our main focus is archi- tectural builds. “We will never be the cheapest or the fastest because we do like to take pride in our work. We need to be in that bracket where people want us to do their work and have the ability to get us to do their work.” While True Vision Construction does not have its own in-house designer, most of its residential projects are ‘design and build’, gen- erally working with the client’s architect from the project’s infancy. “We will do the site meeting with the archi- tect and then work through the details and design with monthly meetings, working out the best way of doing the build. “One of our major architectural builds was up the Wairau Valley — that was a four-year project building a horse arena, sheds and the house.” A member of the Marlborough Master Builders executive board Steve says from a construction perspective Marlborough is doing very well with plenty of work available for the region’s builders. “The level of work is of a very high standard, with an extremely low inspection failure rate. There are also a lot of young builders coming up in Marlborough which is nice to see.” BUILDING SUPPLIES • FARM BUILDINGS ALUMINIUM JOINERY • FRAMES & TRUSSES 41 HOLDSWORTH STREET, PO BOX 832 | BLENHEIM PHONE: 03 578 3049 | WWW.ITM.CO.NZ High Performance Bespoke Architectural Services > RESIDENTIAL > ALTERATIONS > COMMERCIAL > EDUCATION > CULTURAL 18 PITCHILL ST BLENHEIM P 021 1443 422 E Design Office
