| 73 BUILDING South Canterbury - Stu Heap Building Stunning newmotel complex in Tekapo The two block L-shaped motel complex is beautifully clad in schist stone and occupies a high profile elevated site. Kim Newth V isitors to the Mackenzie Country will soon be able to book into a luxurious new motel with unbeatable views of Lake Tekapo. Stu Heap Building Ltd has completed the new two-storey five-star complex of 28 motel units to a meticulously high standard. The team is almost finished on site, having reached the final phase of landscaping and other finishing touches by late April. “We’re very pleased with how the project has come together,” says Stu. “With a combination of fabulous views and a fantastic client to work alongside, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. “The whole team is very proud of what they have achieved and the feedback has been really good.” Designed by Pat Cole, of Timaru’s Draftline, the two block L-shaped motel complex is beautifully clad in schist stone and occupies a high profile elevated site. The overall impact is truly impressive. “Looking up the lake and over the Church of the Good Shepherd and the recent new footbridge, these motels have the best views in Tekapo, for sure! Its location can never be built out so the views won’t ever be lost.” With a mix of luxury studio and double bedroom units, the complex also includes a manager’s apartment, reception foyer and laundry facility. Each block is well-heated and has accessible units for less mobile guests. All units are high- ly specified with tiled showers and bathrooms, tiled flooring and well-appointed kitchenettes. Guests arrive at the rear of the building under a large canopy, supported by massive hardwood bridge beams. On entering the re- ception foyer, they will be wowed by two-sto- reys of glass, separated by a mezzanine floor, and sensational lake views. Stu predicts that one of the most popular spots for guests will be the mezzanine floor in the foyer. Boasting cedar finishes, a dou- ble-storey window view and large rustic pillars, it is sure to make a lasting impression. Pulling all the different structural elements and details together required a lot of Stu and his team. Their care and craft is evident throughout this high spec complex. “Attention to detail is everything as all the finishing has to be perfect…I get a lot of satisfaction working on the bigger projects. To see this nearly completed and to have had it run so smoothly from start to finish makes me really proud of my team.” One of the impacts of last year’s Covid shutdown and the closing of borders was that it took pressure off the build and enabled Stu and his team to complete more of the work themselves rather than using subcontractors for jobs such as gib fixing. “However, the roofing iron was installed by specialists as it is a system only roofers can fit.” Launched in 2013 and operating from a home base in Cave, Stu Heap Building Ltd services construction needs of the local com- munity from Tekapo to Timaru, spanning new homes and commercial buildings to sheds and alterations. Now in his second year as South Canter- bury Master Builders President, Stu observes that the building industry as a whole has not looked back since the lockdown. “All the master builders in South Canterbury that I’ve spoken to are very busy.” “Safety & Security combined with lasting good looks” ........................................................................................ 0508 PROVISTA (776 847) www.provista.co.nz • Framed Balustrades • Semi Frameless Glass • Frameless Glass • Pool Fencing • Euro Slat Screening • Frameless Showers • Glass Splashbacks • NZ Designed & Made • Safety Glass • Free Measure & Quote 33 South Terrace Road, Geraldine • Phone: 03 693 8512 Mobile: 027 437 3158 • Email: ratesplumbing@xtra.co.nz Ring us for a first rate job PROUD TO WORK ON THE PLUMBING, AND CENTRAL HEATING FOR THE LAKE TEKAPO MOTEL PROJECT
