86 | Setting the standard in Central Otago BUILDING T from page 84 Central Otago - Christie Brothers Building Christie Brothers Building has built Matt and Brad’s family homes, with Brad’s house earning the firm a silver award at the 2020 Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards, and Matt’s now in the running for a 2021 ADNZ Resene Architectural De- sign Award. Brad’s home, designed by Condon Scott Architects, takes full advantage of the slope of its site, capitalising on alpine views while also providing privacy from the street. Two intersecting wedge shapes form the home, which is clad in warm cedar and offset by dark joinery. A double height foyer and library is a key feature of the interior, where a double height bookshelf, a sliding access ladder, and a mez- zanine floor look out to Mount Maude. Matt’s place, designed by Open Architec- ture, is a single storey but the section has been built up with 1000 cubic metres of backfill to get up above the neighbours and capture a 180 degree view of the mountains, with glimpses of the lake. The s house is clad externally and internally with Abodo heat-treated pine. “We thought we would try it out before recommending it to our clients,” Matt says. “We’ve found it really good. It has no fixings and an aged coating so on the outside it’s going to weather to a silver/grey, and on the inside I’ve painted it black.” 24 Reece Crescent, Wanaka 03 443 4211 ash@mcivorplumberswanaka.co.nz www.mcivorplumberswanaka.co.nz We specialise in providing a wide range of Plumbing, Gasfitting, Drainlaying, Central Heating and specialised related services for both domestic and commercial requirements.
