Taranaki firm NZ Tiny Homes is growing exponentially since being established in 2018, with franchise agencies in Napier, Coroman- del, Tauranga, Hamilton, and Raglan, as well as a long list of satisfied clients throughout the North Island who are opening up their luxurious, stylish, and functional tiny homes as show homes. NZ Tiny Homes Mainland was established in 2020 as a licensed partner and manufacturing facility, with a show home and factory in Fer- rymead and a second factory recently opened in Wainoni. NZ Tiny Homes Mainland sales director Gary Hughes says the firm’s tiny homes offer - ing is appealing to a wide range of clients from first home buyers to retirees, with the homes also an ideal alternative to the traditional kiwi bach since they are relatively inexpensive, can be transported and sited just about anywhere, and can operate off the grid. “If you’re a first home buyer in Christchurch, you are looking at $400,000 to $500,000 for something old, cold, and pretty mediocre,” he says. “We are offering high quality and bespoke studio units from $145,000, one bedroom units from $156,990, and two bedroom units from $159,990, with high end fixtures and fittings, double glazed windows, fully insulated floors, walls, and ceilings, and built to the New Zealand building code with a full Code Compli- ance Certificate.” The perception of tiny homes as gypsy caravans or boxes with mezzanine floors or converted shipping containers is now a perception of a bygone era. NZ Tiny Homes is delivering 32sqm homes with a 2.7m stud on one side and a 2.4m stud on the other, the gradient roof opening up the available space. Gary says NZ Tiny Homes Mainland has 10 to 15 different predesigned plans which have been meticulously designed to maximise every inch of space. He invites prospective clients to view and choose one close to what they are looking for. “Then we will amend it to what they really want. It’s a bespoke experience. The footprint stands but internally we can change wall sizes, room orientation, and fit out to cater for a range of unique requirements.” As with a full-size home, the kitchen is the focal point and the hub of every tiny home, so quality in here and in the bathroom is never compromised. Everything is full sized including the shower and toilet, the joinery with soft closing doors and drawers is high end and locally manu- factured, the benchtops are stone, and the kitchen includes a butler’s sink. “It looks and feels like a high-end home. We’re creating something cost-effective and comfortable with an architectural feel.” Indoor/outdoor flow is of great importance to the tiny homes lifestyle and NZ Tiny Homes provides this in spades. With a 32sqm deck and an awning, the living space is effectively doubled and can be lived in for nine months of the year. NZ Tiny Homes Mainland uses local trades wherever possible. When homes are deliv- ered outside of Christchurch, NZ Tiny Homes Mainland uses the trades from the destination location.
