Part of the Bidwill Hospital site expansion includes a purpose-built Paci c Radiology imaging facility. “While Paci c Radiology already provides radiology diagnostic services in Timaru, the opportunity to move into brand-new purpose-built facilities on the Bidwill Trust Hospital site, not only provides the opportunity to expand our radiology services for the South Canterbury community but also conveniently place all imaging services under the one roof.” Adrianne says Paci c Radiology places signi cant emphasis on having world-class imaging technology in local areas so that people do not have to travel to the larger cities to get that care. “We really focus on meeting regional need, by providing our local communities with easy access to our high-tech imaging services. The expansion of our offering in the new purpose-built facility on the Bidwill Trust Hospital site in Timaru aligns well with that purpose.” The full range of imaging technology and services in the new facility includes CT, MRI, Xray, Mammography and the full range of ultrasound services. The new facility will employ a range of skilled imaging staff specialists including radiologists, sonographers, mammographers, MRI and CT Technologists. Adrianne also points out that as a private radiology provider there are minimal wait times for appointments. “Having that level of expertise on the patients’ doorstep means that their referring health professionals — such as a doctor, physiotherapist, gynecologist and other specialist — can receive diagnostic reports in the shortest possible time. The new Paci c Radiology Timaru branch within the new wing at Bidwill Hospital is due for completion late 2022. Adrianne re ects that the collaboration between the hospital team working together to increase the radiology services to the community has gone very well and everyone is looking forward to the move. World-Class Radiology MRI scanning, that are not currently available in a private manner in South Canterbury. The absence of the facilities has meant that South Canterbury people have had to travel to Christchurch or Dunedin, which is often not convenient, particularly when people are unwell.” Now a modern, purpose built surgical hospital with facilities that are comparable with the best in New Zealand, Bidwill Trust Hospital’s roots go back to 1912. Another hospital was built on the site in 1936 and the current hospital was built in 2001. When the hospital’s expansion is completed the suite of radiology services offered will provide a valuable extra capacity to the region, complementing the services currently available through the South Canterbury DHB. “Currently there are no radiology services on our site and Pacific Radiology approached us as they were looking to expand their existing services within the South Canterbury area. We believed that was particularly complementary to our services.”
