For Kevler Homes’ founder and owner Ricky Wang, every new home project represents a unique dream and a unique lifestyle. Making sure the client’s vision is realized - and making the whole design and build process as simple and stress free as possible – is absolutely central to how this company operates. Launched in Christchurch in 2014, Kevler Homes specialises in designing and building strong, distinctive residential homes – from first homes to architectural showpieces – and today has an impressive portfolio. In 2020, the company won three awards at the 2020 Registered Master Builder House of the Year Awards. Kevler Homes offers a large range of inspiring plans that can be readily customised to suit individual preferences and site requirements. “People love having that flexibility to make changes and, with our in-house team of six designers, the wait time to create that change to plan is very short,” says Ricky. “Two of our designers have a combined experience of some 50 years in architectural design, which means we can also design from scratch for clients wanting to build an architectural home.” Kevler Homes offers a good selection of house and land packages with listings on their website -www.kevlerhomes.co.nz “Our main focus is south of Christchurch and Selwyn District. We have quite a lot of builds in Prévelles, Prebbleton and we will be building a couple of showhomes at Brookvale, Lincoln later this year that we plan to open in March or April 2023. They will be medium to above-medium sized quality family homes. Over the last couple of years, we have also expanded north of the city, for example, to Beachgrove (Kaiapoi).” Ricky observes that last year’s hot property market effectively led to section prices across Canterbury soaring out of reach for many buyers. Kevler Homes’ responded by testing the waters on a couple of city townhouse projects. The first of these – a row of two-storey townhouses on Halliwell Ave, Papanui – is on the market for sale with consent currently in council, (and completion estimated in the fourth quarter of 2022). There are two- and three-bedroom options, each with two bathrooms and single garage. “We have carefully designed to create a nice lifestyle for future residents, including families who may wish to put down roots in this part of the city.” Also planned for construction this year are 14 new units on Lincoln Rd, Addington, all three-bedroom homes with garaging. Clients’ peace of mind matters to Ricky and that starts with a 10-year Master Build Guarantee for every Kevler Homes’ new build. “For us, it’s about creating a long-term trusted reputation and solid long-term relationships.” In addition, ‘Kevler Care’ provides a three-year post-build maintenance warranty, which is far longer than the standard 12-month warranty offered by others. Even in the context of rising costs for materials and disrupted supply chains, Kevler Homes continues to stand by fixed price contracts too. “It has not been easy, but at the end of the day, we are building our client’s dream and often everything they have is going into that. We would rather look after our clients than surprise them with unexpected costs. For us, it’s about creating a long-term trusted reputation and solid long-term relationships.” The 40-strong office team – and six to eight build teams, each with three to eight members – share the same values for quality service and passion for the industry. Kevler works alongside trusted partners, such as Topa Electrical. “We’ve worked together for a long time and have formed a process that works well for both parties.” With rising interest rates and inflation, Ricky observes that today’s new housing market is very different to last year. “A market cool-down was necessary but I do think the Reserve Bank needs to treat further interest rises with caution. I’d like to see the Reserve Bank and the Government come up with some positive new policies for growth to help the building industry as many are struggling at the moment.”
