| 93 Canterbury - Murchison Homes “You want to have houses that can be airtight to keep in the warmth but given that in your average four person home we produce 20 litres of vapour daily it should be able to escape.” BUILDING Marty’s research into ways to off-set the emissions created by the building process led him to ‘Foreverbreathe’, a set of building components designed to help the environment and human health at the same time.” hagleykitchens.co.nz 03 313 6699 Showrooms in North Canterbury & Christchurch Hagley Kitchens is a leader in the design, manufacture and supply of kitchens, wardrobes and office joinery. It’s ideal for North Canterbury winters,” he says. It was a big change for Marty and meant in turn that he had to change some of his contractors and suppliers. “The ones that have stayed the distance enjoy the work and can see the bigger picture of what I’m trying to achieve. It involved some retraining at times. Instead of using a craftknife to cut Gib Board for example, for the magnum board you have to use a tracksaw. It’s those ongoing relationships that make it possible for me to achieve a Foreverbreathe Specifcation home. It’s not always easy but it’s well worth it.” By paying attention to all the processes involved in building, and by focusing on the economies that come with scale, Marty is determined to keep these healthy homes as affordable as any other despite using only sustainable products. “For now my house and land packages are on a par with anyone else in the market and I’ve got seven more coming available in June,” says Marty. “My aim is to be more affordable than a traditionally new built home within two years.” says Marty.
