| 113 For Canterbury’s leading commercial glass and reglazing specialist, business success is about much more than dollars and cents. For Sharp Glass, the definition of success is providing prompt, reliable service and making a difference in the community. The third generation local company has a long standing reputation for professional quality service that includes a 24-hour emergency call-out repair service for broken and damaged glass. Daniel Moore returned to the family business at the time of the Christchurch earthquakes, before taking over ownership in 2021. Like his father before him, Daniel sees a lot of value in giving back to the community. “I think we’ve got an obligation to do that – I’ve always felt that’s important. A good, successful business serves the community in more than just one way. That’s why we donate one per cent of our turnover to charities.” Sharp Glass is proud to donate funding and goods to support charitable trusts such as Hōhepa Canterbury, which delivers a range of services for people with intellectual disabilities. Last year, Sharp Sharp Glass proudly serving the community Glass swung in behind Hōhepa’s Christmas card fundraiser. As well, Sharp Glass regularly undertakes maintenance work for Hōhepa Canterbury and is always ready to respond when the need arises. Sharp Glass donates to the international charitable organisation B1G1 as well as a variety of other local charities. Other recipients of their philanthropy include the Child Cancer Foundation, Red Cross, children in need in Ukraine, and the Laura Fergusson Brain Injury Trust. This month (May 2024), they are supporting Parafed. Daniel has a background in rugby and is part of the National Referees Squad. He recently supported REFrespect at the Crusaders’ event The Long Run, which involved running laps of Malvern Park to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation. Daniel and wife Sophie have a three-year-old son, Luka and a six month old, Leo. “I took Luka down to Malvern Park with me too and had a good day running some laps.” Sharp Glass employs a team of 10, including two apprentices, whose training is a valuable contribution to the industry’s future. The company is also equipped with a modern fleet of six specialist vans. In late May, Sharp Glass will be moving from their current Sydenham premises to a new building at 177 Wordsworth Street with more storage capacity and room for a much bigger showroom. “We’ll be able to carry larger panes and, with more stock, will be able to respond even faster to call-outs.” With the rise of safety glass, double glazing and performance glass, replacing broken glass is not as straightforward as it used to be years ago. The Sharp Glass service team always ensures the breakage site is safe and secure, while sourcing the right replacement product. Sharp Glass works with many commercial landlords, as well as organisations like hospitals, universities and prisons to provide prompt repairs, installation and maintenance services. The Sharp Glass 5 point guarantee – Sharp Speed, Sharp Team, Sharp for Good, Sharp Communication and Sharp Clean – provides piece of mind assurance on every job.
