72 | Chilton + Mayne Architecture ARCHITECTURE Chilton + Mayne Architecture, regarded for its innovative design and a strong commitment to sustainability, has been recognised at the 2024 ANZ Business of the Year Awards, Ashburton District. The firm was named a finalist in the Excellence in Professional Services category, which is a significant acknowledgment in the architecture industry, at the award ceremony in Ashburton in February. It was a proud moment for the firm and its team, co-founder and director Garry Mayne said. “When David [Chilton] and I started this firm, it was based on a simple idea and a shared passion for architecture. “Being recognized for our work, especially in the community where we grew up, is incredibly meaningful to us. It validates the hard work our team has put in over the years and reminds us why we do what we do.” Founded in 2010, Chilton + Mayne Architecture emerged from the partnership between Garry and David Chilton, who combined their expertise in architecture and landscape architecture. Over the years, the firm has evolved to include a young and dynamic team, each bringing a unique set of skills and perspectives. The firm’s portfolio covers a wide range of projects, from small-scale alterations and renovations to large residential and commercial developments, as well as educational projects. This diverse array of work has allowed the firm to establish a solid presence not only in Mid Canterbury but across New Zealand. Garry attributes the firm’s success to its approach to problem-solving and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of conventional architecture. “We like to think outside the box, coming up with innovative solutions that address the unique needs of each project,” he said. One notable example of this philosophy is Burnett House in Ashburton, a mixed-use Pushing the limits in architecture Chilton + Mayne Architecture was named as a finalist in the Excellence in Professional Services category at the 2024 ANZ Business of the Year Awards. Chilton + Mayne’s commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed over the years, with the firm receiving multiple TIDA Architecture Awards and ADNZ Regional Architectural Awards. Additionally, they have been national finalists in the ADNZ awards on several occasions. Despite these accolades, Garry emphasises that the firm’s true success lies in its ability to stay current with architectural trends while maintaining a personal touch in every project. “We blend aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that each design is not only beautiful but also practical and tailored to our clients’ needs,” he explained. As a smaller firm, Chilton + Mayne prides itself on its adaptability and personalized service. Garry noted that their size gives them a unique advantage when it comes to responsiveness and flexibility. “We can quickly adapt to changing requirements and respond to our clients’ needs in a way that larger firms often struggle to do. This agility is one of our strengths,” he said. Community engagement is another cornerstone of Chilton + Mayne’s ethos and the firm actively contributes its expertise to local initiatives, engaging in pro bono projects, mentorship programs, and involvement in housing trusts that aim to promote sustainable and accessible living spaces. The firm also supports local charities, sports teams, and schools, reinforcing its commitment to fostering vibrant communities. Garry reflected on the significance of the firm’s recent recognition at the 2024 ANZ Business of the Year Awards. “These awards remind us that we’re making a positive impact, but there’s always more to be done. “We are grateful for the support of our clients and our community, and we look forward to continuing our work with the same passion and dedication.” • New builds & Alterations • Building Inspections • Site soil Investigations • Earthquake Assessments • Light Commercial • Education • Agricultural Structures • Civil Engineering www.rcengineers.co.nz 03 347 1624 Grant Smith 027 788 9808 Nigel Smith 027 735 1031 Email info@firesafetysolutions.co.nz Providing fire safety design services throughout the South Island for over 10 years.
