Conveyance. This is Powering the South Motion New Zealand may be a new name in the South Island, but its legacy runs deep. Built on a century of trusted service and now operating under a unified brand, Motion is delivering integrated industrial solutions that combine engineering expertise, national scale, and local insight. From dairy plants to forestry operations and food processors, southern industries depend on uptime and reliability to stay competitive. That’s where Motion comes in. Although the Motion brand is just three years old locally, it brings together a network of legacy suppliers and specialist businesses into one nationwide team. “We’re working to bring the Motion brand to the forefront,” says Courtney Ireland, General Manager – Value Added Products, at Motion. “Our customers know the legacy brands, but Motion is the brand that ties all these well-known brands together.” With 31 branches across the country, Motion’s reach is as extensive as its offer. The company provides everything from bearings and belting to predictive maintenance, fluid handling, and asset management services. “There’s no one in New Zealand that does what we can do in its entirety,” says Neil Hulme, General Manager - Industrial Products, at Motion. “We’ve got technical teams that can design and manufacture solutions in-house, including a team of qualified engineers. We can mobilise that expertise across every product we supply and every industry we serve.” What sets Motion apart is its customer-first, problem-solving approach. Whether working with a large dairy group or a rural engineering workshop, the team listens first, then builds a tailored solution – from designing dairy hoses that last longer, to helping quarry operators double the life of critical gearboxes through improved lubrication strategies. “We work with customers to reduce their total cost of ownership,” says Hulme. “That could mean changing how a component is installed, advising on lubrication challenges, or proactively replacing a part before it fails. We’re not just selling parts – we’re supporting the entire process.” Motion’s technical innovations go beyond products. In the food and beverage sector, the company’s development of a metal-detectable seal has helped customers prevent contamination events. In mining and quarrying, its 24/7 conveyance team provides hands-on servicing and site monitoring. Predictive maintenance tools like vibration analysis and condition reporting allow industrial customers to plan ahead and maximise uptime. “Either directly or in partnership with a network of resellers, we service all parts of New Zealand,” says Ireland. “Even though Motion in New Zealand is relatively small in the context of the global Motion business, we’re able to access the technical and supply capability of a global business to support local customers across the country.” From forestry to dairy, Motion’s role often starts with technical advice and ends with measurable performance gains. “We’re working alongside OEMs, improving the durability of forestry equipment that heads to an export market, or helping major dairy operators test whether a critical hose can last an extra year,” says Hulme. “That’s what partnership looks like.” With deep local knowledge, international backing, and a drive to innovate, Motion is keeping the South Island moving.
