The rest involves work for different industries in need of precision manufactured sheet steel products. “We have a skill set here that means we can do work for a lot of different sectors around town. It could be for scientific research, or for an architectural kitchen but whatever it is we can manufacture it quickly and to the required high standard,” says operations manager Pete Paton. If the end use is for scientific research, as it is for one of their long-standing multinational customers, being able to guarantee really hygienic site work is an essential part of what Project Stainless has to offer. “We do some of their work at our factory, or we might have to go on-site and do some hygienic pipework, which means the inside of the seam we’re welding has to be perfectly smooth and free from defects leaving nothing for bacteria to accumulate in,” says Pete. Such jobs are just one part of the design, fabrication and installation work done by Project Stainless, whether for kitchens, offices, warehouses or any other place with stainless steel fabrication needs. Project Stainless utilises cutting-edge manufacturing methods to ensure its customers benefit from having the latest equipment to deliver the best product efficiently and at a good price point. Whether the job is big or small, it gets the same level of attention from any one of the five highly skilled sheet metal fabricators working at the factory, a skill level honed over decades in the job. “Two of our guys have been here from the beginning, but they’re all high-achievers, who understand the level of detail required for a lot of the jobs we do,” says Pete. Project Stainless will take an idea and shepherd it through to a completed product, offering a site-specific design service, working with customers to understand the outcome they want, then fabricating and installing the final product to achieve that outcome in an efficient and timely way. They also have a wide range of modular solutions, which might suit customers with less exacting requirements. At the same time as offering free quotes and advice, their project managers and designers have the experience to anticipate the end-use of the design in front of them. There’s a lot of problem solving involved, Pete explains. “It’s like origami, so there’s often a lot of skill required to make something the way the architect intends it, while getting the most out of each sheet of metal. “Sometimes we question things because of cost implications, or reduced functionality. For example, we had a bar bench drawn up to be 800mm deep, but if you’re trying to serve drinks on to a bar leaner, that’s too deep to be comfortable, so we questioned it and it was changed to the standard 600, so the staff can do their job without stretching and straining.” Whether it’s componentry destined for the medical industry, or architectural panels for a house, Project Stainless excels at fabricating things both sophisticated and simple, with that smooth look and feel, and hygienic and aesthetically pleasing to enhance whatever space they occupy.
