Plunket Electrical - Timaru CONTRACTING Three-quarters of a century after it was founded by Maurice Plunket in Oamaru, the Plunket Electrical Group continues to grow and evolve, and has established itself as a go-to company not just for electrical work, but also for a range of associated services and trades. The company covers all aspects of commercial, industrial, rural and domestic electrical services, and a range of others that includes HVAC, fire and security alarm systems, data and fibre cabling, CCTV systems, access control and appliance repairs. Along with the majority shareholders, Kelly O’Driscoll and Mark Rawson, there are several other staff members that have a shareholding in the businesses. Plunket Electrical has grown steadily over the years to where it now has a total staff of 50 across its two sites, in Oamaru and Timaru, with offices and workshops at both locations. “We believe strongly in involving key staff, hence the offering of shareholdings in the business,” Kelly says. Plunket Appliances and Data was formed in 2010 as a wholly owned subsidiary, amalgamating some smaller businesses and offering key services like HVAC, fire and data alarms, security cameras and appliance repairs. “We do quite a mix of work across the group, with a large percentage of it being commercial, backed up by domestic and rural demand,” Kelly says. “In Timaru, we were the main electrical contractor of the Showgrounds development, which was completed 15 months ago, and included the fit-out of Bunnings as a major tenant on the site. We were also involved with the recent re-development of Timaru’s major sporting ground, Fraser Park. “Both those projects involved us delivering all the electrical work as well as HVAC and data, as did the recent completion in Oamaru of the Oamaru Retirement Village, and we’re about to start work on Oamaru’s new sports stadium. “Rurally, we carry out repairs, installations, rewiring and maintenance of dairy sheds, pump-sheds, irrigation and security systems, CCTV and other plant, along with homesteads. “It’s a pretty comprehensive service, and the company’s got a well-earned reputation for doing not just the big jobs, but the small ones too.” The company is strongly involved in Master Electricians, with Mark currently serving as the industry organisation’s president. In part because of its association with Master Electricians, Plunket Electrical is committed to offering education and advancement opportunities to its younger staff in particular, with five apprentices in the Oamaru branch and three in Timaru. www.telfers.co.nz Proud to be associated with Plunket Electrical Ph: 03 684 8410 www.plunket-electrical.co.nz EcoSmart Plunket Electrical – Your one stop shop for all your electrical needs including Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Heating and Ventilation, Data and Security Member Electrical Contractors Association of NZ MASTER ELECTRICIANS
