ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Keith Ussher Architecture’s long history as a respected Christchurch design practice has created an enduring legacy in the city’s urban environment and a reputation for quality results. Few designers could match Keith’s level of experience, stretching back many decades to when he first started working as a young draughting apprentice. He spent 25 years working for other architectural companies and as an architect consultant before launching his own practice some 20 years ago. “His knowledge, design skills and understanding of practical building design is so extensive,” says Keith’s son Craig, who now runs the business on a day-to-day basis. While his father is now semi-retired, Craig says he is still very much involved in many aspects of design and planning on various projects. ‘Designed by Keith Ussher Architecture’ is recognised by agents as a marker of quality in the Christchurch market, whether it’s a two-storey family home in Merivale coming on the market again, or a chic new city townhouse with garaging. Experience is such an asset in this business. It means the knowledge is there for site feasibility assessments right from the start, and the sound knowledge of building processes and council requirements helps ensure a smooth process through to project completion. Keith and Craig’s track record demonstrates their flair for looking after clients and creating stunning practical design that’s right for the site. Rounding out the team is Oscar Zhong, who has been with the practice for some 15 years. Through the years, Keith Ussher Architecture has designed many rural houses and farmhouses, as well as challenging hill homes. The diverse portfolio also features a range of commercial projects, including retail premises and motels. With growing densification in the city, the practice has shifted to meet rising demand for medium-density housing. Over the 2020/21 period, the team designed a number of multi-unit townhouse projects for property developer Wilsons Ltd in areas like Spreydon. Keith Ussher Architecture continues to bring quality to medium-density living in the city, including in their latest project, being newly completed three-bedroom townhouses on Harrow Street near the city centre. Each has a fully insulated internal-access garage plus off-street parking – such an asset for the area. Designed for comfortable city living, the townhouses feature generous layouts, top-end finishes, and sun-filled private outdoor areas. “We’re doing a couple of similar ones at the moment that are two- to three-bedroom townhouses with garage,” says Craig. “A lot of the units getting built now don’t have a parking space or a garage. “We think it’s prudent to include garaging if you don’t want city streets to be clogged with parked cars.” Based in Christchurch – Servicing Canterbury wide 027 623 6707 | stantonbuilders@xtra.co.nz www.stantonbuilders.co.nz BUILDING YOUR FUTURE Architectural | Bespoke Builds | Extensions | Bathrooms We are experienced and chartered professional engineers.
