The growth of Quantum Commercial Property Management over the past year has seen the Queenstown-based business expand into both Wanaka and Cromwell. Angela Hill is proud of how far her business has come in nine years, with her managed portfolio having increased from 30 to 40 properties in just over 18 months. The team of four are now based in their own premises on Glenda Drive in Frankton and offer a niche service for owners of commercial properties throughout the district. The majority of their clients are private landlords that are based outside the area, and investment property owners who have portfolios of buildings. QCPM takes care of all the compliance requirements including health and safety and fire safety requirements, and ensures tenants fulfill their lease obligations. Evolving Health and Safety legislation has been a challenge, making requirements more stringent on commercial owners including the need for risk registers for each property. Increasing compliance obligations, combined with management fees typically being recoverable through tenant operating expenses, have made professional property management an increasingly attractive option for private landlords which QCPM see as an opportunity. QCPM manage a wide range of assets from small industrial sheds through to large scale precincts such as Kawarau Park with its Southern Cross Hospital and small retail precinct — one of their main contracts. Angela said she has been working with some of her clients for over 15 years, reflecting long-term trust built through consistent service delivery. As an independent business, the company offers flexibility and tailored services designed to meet each client’s specific needs while enhancing asset value. Their approach is relationship driven — working closely with landlords, tenants and contractors to ensure properties operate efficiently and proactively. “We have some really good relationships with good contractors now and they understand the standards we expect.” Angela’s business has grown organically over the years and is in some ways recession proof; commercial buildings always need ongoing maintenance work to keep them up to standard. The commercial property management industry was also largely unaffected by the pandemic and now that the tourism industry in Queenstown Lakes has recovered, business is full steam ahead. Angela’s career began in Sydney with Colliers International as a Commercial Leasing Agent and Portfolio Manager on the Telstra Corporation contract under United Group Ltd. In 2006, she joined Colliers Queenstown (formerly Mac Property Services) as a Commercial Property Manager and Consultant. Following the 2015 merger of Colliers Queenstown’s property management division with Māori Hill Property (now Mackersy Property), Angela stepped into the role of Senior Property Manager, continuing to manage a diverse portfolio of private and syndicated commercial, industrial and retail assets throughout Queenstown. Angela has built her business around a busy family life, and she allows her staff the same flexibility. Treating her staff well ensures they are committed to the company long term, and those pay-offs flow onto their clients as well. The increase in numbers over the past 18 months have proven that. “We’ve had big growth and it shows,” she said. Looking ahead, QCPM will mark 10 years in business in 2027. A milestone achieved through steady, organic growth driven largely by word of mouth and good service. REGIONAL
