T T Kim Newth For SME businesses seeking proximity to Christchurch International Airport, a flexible new warehousing development getting underway in Harewood this winter offers an ideal opportunity. Cohesive Construction is delivering the design and build of the new, modern warehouse facilities at the Lakes Industrial Park, just 5km from the airport. This well-established industrial park is already a popular base of operations for a range of thriving businesses, including contractors, manufacturers, freight forwarders, modular builders, drug testing service providers and more. The new, single-storey warehousing facilities, encompassing 1600sqm in total, are located next to the park’s auto self-serve truck and car wash, adding another level of convenience for future occupiers. The self-serve wash is a busy spot, where campervan and truck drivers alike go to clean up their vehicles. “It attracts a big range of vehicles and it’s all self-serve – in fact, I think it’s the only truck self-serve wash in the South Island,” says Brian Court, who set up the Lakes Industrial Park just over a decade ago. “It is open 24/7, so having that next door will be a welcome aspect of life for those going into this new warehousing.” Brian says the biggest advantage of this modern warehouse development, though, is its location, with the airport less than 10 minutes away. The new warehouse facilities are on track for completion by the end of 2026. “This is the final site to be developed at Lakes Industrial Park, and it’s the last piece of industrial ground with close proximity from the north to the airport. We can cater for a variety of space requirements within the warehouse envelope – from 300sqm to 500sqm – to suit individual business needs,” Brian says. “It’s a great option for companies moving or storing dry wares that need additional warehousing space close to the airport. Some may already have facilities near the airport, but just need some extra room to grow. We will be providing 40- to 60-square-metre office facilities to support businesses going in there, too, but if they need something bigger we can accommodate that as well. We invite interested business to get in touch, so they can explore the options with us.” Another key drawcard is the site will be safe and secure, with automatic entry gates. “The gates will be on a timer, from say, 8am to 5pm. After-hours access will be available only by swipe card or similar.” Lakes Industrial Park’s proximity to the airport will be a huge plus for many businesses and, along with that, is a special setting near Roto Kohatu Reserve. Brian is delighted to have partnered with Cohesive Construction on this exciting project. Cohesive is highly experienced in commercial construction, operating out of eight regional offices nationwide. Their team has completed more than 2000 projects over the past decade. “Cohesive has built with us previously at Lakes Industrial Park and so we know their capabilities and can rely on them to deliver what we want,” says Brian. “In a commercial building project like this, having a quality team makes all the difference.”
