B uilding in the unique environment of the Mackenzie Basin and beyond is chal- lenging yet rewarding for Twizel based company RAD Building. Led by owner Rob Davis, RAD Building is well adapted to working within this unique and beautiful location and the technical building requirements the challenging climate presents. “We have developed efficient ways of building in the Mackenzie and having been established in the area for some time; we understand the environmental challenges well,” Rob says “We love creating buildings that can endure these conditions.” In addition to building quality homes and completing renovations, RAD Building has fo- cused strongly on developing and supporting a successful team. “We’ve got a great culture, we’ve got a great set of values. The team care about everyone in our project delivery, including our clients, our team and our trade partners.” “The guys on our crew all take ownership of our projects and accountability for their roles within the team. This make us a valuable unit and a great, approachable team to work with”. Projects RAD Building are currently working include new homes, dream holiday baches, decks and spas for outdoor living, sheds for storage out of the harsh Mackenzie weather and re-building following the recent fires at Lake Pukaki and Lake Ohau Village. A highlight for the company was working on the stunning Lindis Lodge which won both national and international architecture awards for it’s one-in-a-million design by “the very talented” team at Wellington-based firm Architecture Workshop. Creating beautiful homes in a beautiful location Overlooking the Ahuriri River near Omar- ama, it is a five-bedroom luxury lodge on a site exposed to an extreme climate varying from 35-plus degrees in summer to minus 16 degrees in winter with gale-force winds commonplace. The client’s vision was to deliver world-class accommodation which meant every detail, from the lodge’s unique curved timber roof to the striking window system, needed to be something special. “It was quite a privilege to be asked to be part of something so unique,” Rob says. The project continues to have ongoing benefits for the RAD team in terms of the skills and methodologies acquired through the complexity of the build and the need to continually source solutions to create the unique design. “The range of techniques and adaptability required for this project can be applied to all building projects to create quality construc- tion. We enjoy thinking outside the box to build just what our clients are after.” “A key focus for us is to bring our clients’ plans to life in an innovative way.” RAD Building takes pride in talking with clients to build their ‘why’, rather than their ‘what’. “This understanding and relationship approach with our clients has led to consist- ent feedback about their excitement about what we build for them and in exceeding their expectations.” “We’re a service industry, we’re not in a production industry. I believe the wider construction industry has a focus on produc- tion, whereas we consider we are providing a service. “We truly love living in the Mackenzie and have a passion for construction so that our clients can enjoy living here too.” Proud to support Rad Building Providing expertise in designing your new home or renovation. 03 689 7077 or 027 689 7069 KenT_design@xtra.co.nz 713 Lower Hook Road, RD8 Waimate Proudly supporting RAD Building ARCHITECTURE BY DESIGN Ken Turnbull HOURS OF BUSINESS Monday - Friday 7.00am - 5.00pm Saturday 8.30am - 12.30pm 33 Seadown Road, Washdyke Phone 03 688 8074 Email sales@timaruitm.co.nz TIMARU Call us for all your frame, truss & building materials needs Timaru, Twizel, Oamaru - we cover the region. “We’ll see you right”
