LIFESTYLE N estled idyllically in the heart of Christchurch’s leafy suburb of Papanui, Stage One redevelopment of Oceania’s Bellevue Village Living and Aged Care facilities is on track for completion in April. The site of redevelopment was previously occupied by a care centre along with a num- ber of villas, with the care building demol- ished due to damage incurred during the Christchurch earthquakes. Part of a planned two stage development, the first stage consists of a multi-storey building encompassing 71 care suites, 22 independent living apartments and communal facilities. The planned second stage will include a cinema, additional lounge spaces, outdoor seating area with communal BBQ and a workshop. Developed, owed and operated by Oceania, the Bellevue Retirement Village has been de- signed by local architects Foley Group and is being built by Armitage Williams Construction. HFC Group were engaged as structural engi- neers, working closely with client and architect to achieve their vision while ensuring the structural design met the highest standards of efficiency and buildability. Formed in 2005, Oceania is an experienced developer and ‘care focused’ operator of aged care homes and retirement villages, whose portfolio includes a substantial brownfield de- velopment pipeline throughout New Zealand. Mark Stockton, General Manager Develop- ment and Property says the Bellevue Village offers both Aged Care Living—rest home & hospital care—and Village Living—independ- ent living apartments. The first stage integrated, multi develop- ment includes two levels of aged care and three levels of apartments. The apartments are contained within a sep- arate north facing two-storey wing, and within the third-storey component located centrally over the main street common area. “The Bellevue will offer a choice of luxury apartments in different shapes and sizes to suit residents needs including; one-bedroom, one-bedroom with a flexible second room, two-bedroom or two-bedroom with a flexible third room. Whether residents like to entertain, or simply enjoy their own space, Mark says they will love the flexibility and open plan design at The Bellevue. The use of good quality materials and effi- cient fittings ensure the apartments achieve a Homestar 6 certification. The care centre is designed around two central landscaped courtyards, a centralised common lounge & dining area, which is repli- cated over two floors.
