A tenant of Darling Realty, Allied New Zealand have been operating out of Wharf St, but the opportunity to move to a different location had several advantages, franchise owner Simon Hall says. Its former warehouse was shared with another Darling Realty tenant, but it has sole occupancy of the new building, comprising 500 square metres of warehouse and 61 square metres of office space. Access to and from the street is better, especially taking into account traffic flow, am- bient light is much improved and the corner site provides a good public profile. Because the business is MPI and New Zealand Customs approved, the yard is fully secure. Darling Realty principal, Lincoln Darling, says his company’s Ward St site had four older buildings which had “passed their use-by date”. “They were all low wall stud height and the tenant moved on so we demolished them and developed a high-stud warehouse for Allied New Zealand.” Naylor Love Dunedin was the lead con- struction contractor and McAuliffe Stevens, also of Dunedin, the architect, with Allied New Zealand being involved in the design process of the new warehouse from day one. “They obviously had a very high-stud re- quirement and they had to be near and have easy access to Port Chalmers and the whole of Dunedin.” Construction was tendered and while prices quoted did not differ significantly, the dead- line for completion was the decider for Naylor Love to be granted the contract. “They were able to do it in a very tight time- frame, it was five months from start to finish which was exceptional. “They kept us informed the whole way, they kept exactly to their time-frame within the day, they were never behind.” An unexpected issue that cropped up involving contamination on the site was dealt with very swiftly and did not affect the con- struction schedule. “Obviously they are very experienced, they’ve been in business for over 100 years, they didn’t skimp on quality and they did an extremely good job.” contractors of choice Painters & Decorators JAMES WREN & CO LTD Contracting • Painting, Decorating • Programmed Maintenance • Tiling 50 Carroll Street PH: 03 477 9384 www.wrens.co.nz EST 1896 • Textured Coating • Solid Plastering • Specialist Coating Proud to be supporting Darling Realty Dunedin Branch | www.aoteaelectric.co.nz Ph: (03) 455 1039 | 25 MacAandrew Rd, Dunedin ELECTRIC COMMUNICATIONS SECURITY FIRE Aotea ELECTRIC SPECIALISTS IN ROOFING, PLUMBING & PIPE SERVICES www.impactotago.co.nz | 10B Strathallan St, Dunedin Proud to support Darling Realty Drainlayers 03 455 5871
