In the first months of 2021, the centre will really start to take shape. Blockwork will be underway following completion of excavations. Work on roading, carparking, the picnic area and other ameni- ties will be proceeding on schedule. “This has been in the pipeline for many years, stretching back before 2016 with various feasibility studies highlighting the need for upgraded facilities,” says the council’s project coordinator Emma Duncan, who held a similar role with the Waiau Community Pool and knows what a difference these amenities make. “It is not just an aquatic service: this centre will bring people together and connect the community. “It is a huge success for Kaikōura to have reached this point, with the centre now head- ing towards completion.” CMT Group NZ has completed many large- scale commercial construction projects and is also increasingly involved in residential new builds.
