Working out of their head office and work- shops in Woolston, Welding and Engineering’s team has gained an enviable reputation for delivering high quality results on large and complex jobs. As the company’s managing director Chris Roberts says, ‘WE make the impossible possi- ble’. It is a pledge and a promise backed with years of experience. A boiler maker by trade, Chris has over 30 years’ welding and project experience and first started his own company, Welds Ltd, some 18 years ago, (later bought out by a civil construction company). Following the Canterbury earthquakes, Chris could see the pressing need for expe- rienced welders and people with structural steel know-how to help in the rebuild effort. It inspired him to forge the company he leads today, Welding and Engineering Ltd, which has played a pivotal part in the region’s recovery and continues to take on many chal- lenging projects across the city and beyond, from earthquake strengthening to new-build structural frames, across both residential and commercial projects. Welding and Engineering is a true one-stop shop for structural and architectural weld- ing and fabrication, with QS, drafting and design services available to complement the workshop team. The company mostly services Christchurch and Canterbury but has flexibility to work anywhere. ENGINEERING Welding and Engineering “We have invested heavily back into the company to ensure we will be here for a long time to come as industry professionals, delivering quality product and with safety of people paramount. Since the earthquakes, New Zealand’s weld- ing and fabrication sector has undergone a transformation from being largely self-regulat- ed to having a governing body and accredita- tion and ISO certification standards to deliver on quality assurance. Welding and Engineering is certified across a number of welding and other related ISO standards and is regularly audited. From a customer perspective, these certifi- cations demonstrate not just that a consistent high standard is being met but also that the company holds itself accountable for the quality of its work. “We have invested heavily back into the company to ensure we will be here for a long time to come as industry professionals, delivering quality product and with safety of people paramount. In fact, health and safety is a number one priority for us and we take it very seriously, employing a full-time health and safety manager.” In the post-earthquake years, Welding and Engineering became heavily involved in specialised earthquake strengthening work as well as delivering structural steel work for new buildings. to page 56 Proudly supporting Welding & Engineering Ltd Christchurch A contemporary profile that references the symmetry of Corrugate but with a more angular form and higher ribs thus creating bolder shadow lines for that stronger first impression.
