| 67 TIMBER INDUSTRY Steve Jones Logging Significant investment in machinery and technology has defined the company as a fully mechanised ground based and cable-hauling operation mainly working in privately owned woodlots. Maximising operations Focused on maximising its customers’ valu- able operation time, Invercargill machinery specialist 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire Ltd offers a highly mobile repair and maintenance service to its forestry and agricultural cus- tomers throughout the lower south. While major repairs of machinery that can- not be carried out on site are undertaken in the company’s Invercargill depot, mobile teams in Invercargill, Dunedin and Timaru ensure a prompt and ef cient response on site where and when needed. In addition to the repair service, 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire offer a complete range of machinery parts including Satco heads in both Invercargill and Timaru. “About four years ago we became the agents for Satco forestry heads and equipment for Timaru-south,” says Brett McIntyre who founded 2 Tyre Tracks & Hire in 2014. “That’s also our connection with Steve Jones Logging who has both a Satco processing and felling head. We specialise in the supply of hardware including bars and chains; everything required to get that head going properly. But we look after a vast range of Steve Jones Forestry gear including excavator bases and skidders.” Because it is of the utmost importance to keep the excavator heads operat- ing at peak performance at all times, 2 Tyre Tracks & Hire offers a robotic chain sharpening service, which Brett says is in frequent demand. The company recently obtained the New Zealand license to sell Ponsse forwarders and wheeled harvesters, selling the rst three into New Zealand just over a year ago. “Ponsse is a huge brand in Europe and we were excited to get the New Zealand license to sell them.” Complementing sales, tting and servicing of agricultural and forestry machinery, the ever diversifying company has added a eet tyre service to its offering. “Selling wheeled harvesters and being able to provide a complete service to our customers was the driver for that. ”We sell machinery, x the digger, tune- up the felling head and put tyres on the logging truck.” Re ecting on what has underpinned the company’s success, Brett has no doubt it comes down to his team. “I often say you’re only as good as your last job. We have awesome customers but we wouldn’t have them if we didn’t have good staff who provide that prompt and ef cient back-up service. “We have a base but we’re highly mobile and have very low overheads, enabling us to keep the charge-out rate low. ”So we offer a well-priced service that’s timely to maximise the customer’s opera- tion time.” AUTHORISED SERVICE CENTRE Authorised service agent for P O N S S E WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT TO GET THE JOB DONE FAST! 03 215 4556 027 201 4149 2tyretracks@gmail.com www.2tyretracks.co.nz Servicing all Southland, Otago & South Canterbury
