| 87 Three Sixty Architecture ARCHITECTURE Winning design at one with the environment T T from page 84 Angled off the living wing are the bedrooms, along with another self-contained unit for guests over the rear garaging. Schist and cedar walls frame the home’s main entry, with a media space sited off to one side. Volume ebbs and flows through this home, expanding through the living areas where the stud height reaches 3.2m to capture the gran - deur of the views and compressing to a more intimate scale in the bedrooms. The exception is the master suite, facing the lake on the western side of the frontage. Height and volume are both used here to good effect, with open skylights above. Passive solar principles have been deployed effectively. There are generous eaves along the heavily glazed north-facing side, giving shade in the height of summer. At the same time, the glazing allows low winter sun to penetrate and warm the home’s concrete floor slab. The materials palette for this home is time - less, including natural stone, Alucobond (al - uminium composite) and western red cedar. Oak has been used extensively to complete the interior finish. Dark Alucobond bands add considerable impact to the home’s overall exterior aesthet - ic, along with dramatic vertical steel posts. The interplay between horizontal flat roof el - ements and vertical timber cladding provides added visual interest.
