The Invercargill business is owned and run by husband and wife team John and Jan Langeveld who founded the company in 2018. Ministry of Education projects are now their core workload. “Eighty-five percent of our business would be in the education sector,” John says. “As a property consultant and project management company, one of our specialties is in the management of education facilities.” As well as this core work that includes managing school alterations and extensions, Invision also provides pre-purchase house inspections and electrical testing and tagging in Southland and Central Otago. John brings decades of experience to the business and its clients. “With over 25 years in the construction industry and more than 15 years in project management in the education sector, we can address any issues and come up with cost-effective solutions. This experience and knowledge helps save you time and money, and our extensive knowledge of construction and building codes means you’ll get reliable results.” John describes himself as the go-to person for school boards of trustees and staff who are involved in any MOE initiated projects at their school, and his role includes providing plain English explanations of the technical elements of a project, along with assistance in keeping within budget constraints. “I organise everything on their behalf between them and the ministry. Right from the design, I try to make it easy for the clients. “My advantage with having a building background is if anything goes wrong on the work side I can help solve any problems.” One of the key aspects of any project, the building consent, has become increasingly complex, but MOE requirements for school work, plus the environment that contractors work in adds further complexity which requires additional expertise and understanding, John says. An additional specialty is the management of education facilities including developing 10-year plans, condition assessments of buildings and infrastructure and site surveys which more recently includes undertaking playground inspections as well. Invision has a steady demand for its pre-purchase building inspections which provides a comprehensive assessment of the condition of a residential or commercial property that includes a comprehensive written report and photographs. “The inspection provides peace of mind by checking for faults, doing a roof inspection, and checking with ICC building codes, and it is a requirement by some banks to have one completed.” A feature of Invision’s pre-purchase inspections is the use of the latest drone with a high-quality camera which is faster, more efficient and safer that having to set up scaffolding and to work at height. “It’s ideal for commercial purposes and helps us get detailed information about a roof and to properly and accurately gauge the condition of other hard-to-access areas so you can make informed decisions.” An advantage of having Invision undertake an inspection is that John’s advice is completely unbiased and independent. For electrical inspections, Invision can complete all electrical testing and tagging in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 for single phase and low voltage electrical equipment and, importantly, keeps up-to-date on the most recent changes and revisions in the standard to ensure a project or equipment and components meets the latest regulations. “We can do this service for any building type including schools, factories, offices, and commercial buildings.”
