Adam has been a builder for nearly two decades. During this time he also worked as a branch manager a Gore aluminium joinery for five years in addition to working in Darwin, Australia, for two years which gave him experience in large-scale residential work. He has also developed a residential investment property portfolio, and says this varied experience has been an asset in his business and to his clients. With recruiting and retaining staff being challenging in the industry let alone in a small town, Adam has taken an innovative approach to creating a motivated team and a positive workplace culture. A big part of this is that the builders work four 10 hour days and have a three day weekend for eight months of the year, loosely in tandem with daylight saving. “The staff love it.” Adam Newton Homes undertakes new builds, renovations both modest and major, kitchens and bathrooms and has a growing transportable homes arm. New builds range from the more modest but well-designed transportables to architecturally designed bespoke builds. Last year the business had nine homes either in progress or completed and this year has the same number in various stages of progress despite a more challenging building economy. One of the bespoke builds is a 340 square metre home in Gore designed by Husk Design + Draft, built for a couple with young children who had previously engaged Adam Newton Homes to build a transportable holiday home. Completed late last year, the couple’s dream home comprises four bedrooms with a spacious walk-in wardrobe, two bathrooms plus a separate extra toilet, a large laundry and a gym. The interior design features some nice colour accents; the master bedroom has grooved panelling painted cool green as a feature wall, a children’s bedroom has a pleasant pastel pink wallpapered feature wall, while the shower in the main bathroom is backed by variegated green tiles as a complement to the overall neutral tones. The kitchen is family friendly, functional and stylish and has a large adjoining pantry with extensive storage cupboards and shelves, plus its own oven, sink and bar fridge. “It’s their second build with us. They love it.” Transportable Options Adam Newton Homes has added a growing transportable homes arm to its Mataura-based business. The company currently offers two, three and four bedroom transportable homes from 60m2 to 140m2 across five plans with the ability to create larger homes by design.
