One of the homes, the three bedroom, two bathroom monopitch roof Totara plan is to be showcased at the Southern Field Days mid-February. It features a walk-in laundry and scullery along with some special design touches with the input of a local professional interior designer, as can each transportable home built by Adam Newton Homes. Adam Newton Homes completed the build of a 156m2 transportable holiday home that went to Kingston late last year. It had five bedrooms and three bathrooms with feature lounge ceiling with a gable roof. The transportable holiday home was the result of the client discovering that, for their needs, this was the most viable option as opposed to building on a distant site, especially taking into account the cost of mileage and potentially accommodation which can be significant. Building the transportables on Adam Newton Homes’ site means there are efficiencies in the building process, plus the cost per square metre is typically less that what is currently charged in places such as Central Otago. The homes feature 2100mm height internal doors and thermally broken glazing, which is now a requirement of the upgraded building code as of May last year, but Adam Newton Homes has increased the amount of insulation in its transportables over and above the new code to create a more energy efficient home. As well as each kitchen being professionally designed, the showers and bathrooms also have unique design features, creating an overall sense of a higher quality home than is sometimes associated with those that can be transported. Although the transportable home offering is just a year on, Adam is pleased with the level of enquiry and sees it as having the potential to become a significant part of the business.
