NEWZEALAND 128A Waterloo Road Hornby Christchurch 8042 Phone +64 3 982 2810 FABRUM.NZ contact@fabrum.nz A Christchurch company’s ability to provide liquified gas technology is the gain of many global organisations. Fabrum Solutions, which provides a complete end-to-end solution for liquified gases, was established about 20 years ago and today is called on by some of the biggest names in the world of transport, technology and space. Among them are NASA, Rolls Royce, Siemens and Airbus, to name a few. Co-founder and managing director Christopher Boyle recalls Siemens, a German technology company that focuses on industry, infrastructure, transport and health care, was the first of the big names to jump on board. “I think it gave us a really good insight into the fact we were developing technology that no one else in the world had identified to do,” he said. “When companies like that started signing up for solutions we thought ok, we have got this . . . but, it hasn’t been a short journey - it’s taken 20 years. It’s like a wine, the good stuff takes longer.” Fabrum Solutions, a rapidly growing company, is a world leader in the precision engineering and technological excellence in cryogenics, leveraging patented dual-diaphragm pressure wave generator technology and large-scale linear pulse tubes. It has a history of dedicated research and development, which has resulted in world-leading technology and is now one of the only companies in the world that provides a full end-to-end solution making hydrogen for fuel. Christopher said hydrogen was an “absolute game changer”. “When people started using hydrogen as a fuel we were able to pivot. “You can make it from water and then it converts back to water when used in a fuel cell - it’s a closed cycle.” Fabrum can provide on-site solutions to guarantee the surety of cryogenic liquid when and where a client needs it. The company’s systems can produce liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid air, liquid hydrogen and re-liquefy liquified natural gas or other cryogens to meet customer requirements. In August Fabrum was one of 42 nominations received for the inaugural Aotearoa Hydrogen Awards. However, winning accolades was not the company’s motivator, Christopher said. “We don’t sit there expecting to receive an award for something. It’s usually our customers . . . they generally get the awards.” And, that is the way Christopher likes it. “It’s all our technology that’s enabling them to be in that place,” he said. “We’re much happier to stand in the background and let the customers get the accolades. “We have long term relationships with all of our customers – it’s always multiple projects and they are the ones that are funding the work – they are standing up making stuff happen.” Just knowing Fabrum has helped them get there is an accolade in itself – something that is made possible by the 100 people who now work for the company, including one in the US and one in the UK. The rest are all New Zealand based, mainly Christchurch. Christopher describes the business as Christchurch-centric, but globally focused, backed up by staff who travel far and wide to ensure Fabrum products are supported by those who know them best.
