The Site Wise Gold 100% emblem indicates the company have achieved a grade of 100% on their annual health and safety assessment. An achievement the company’s operations manager Riley Letton is particularly pleased about because it signals, they are a safe and trustworthy operator for main contractors on projects they undertake throughout Canterbury and the South Island. They are also members of Site Safe and Civil Contractors New Zealand. “It’s very important to us that the contractors we undertake work for, are assured we are an experienced team well aware of our health and safety responsibilities and procedures,” Riley says. Riley is the third generation of the family owned and operated contracting business first founded by his grandfather Martin in 1984. Today the company employs 23 staff – 19 in Christchurch and four in Marlborough – a capable and experienced team that can undertake the big jobs with no fuss across a wide variety of projects. Most recently that has included kerb and channel works for the entranceway and carpark of the Metro Sports Facility in central Christchurch. A $301m project by Crown rebuild company Otakaro Ltd - stretching over 30,000 sq mts and comprising an aquatic centre, nine indoor sports courts and seating for 2500 people. “It’s very important to us that the contractors we undertake work for, are assured we are an experienced team well aware of our health and safety responsibilities and procedures.” “We were the sub-contractor to Protranz Earthmoving on this job which involved a five-person crew at various stages of the fivestage construction,” says Riley. “One of our biggest for 2023,” he says. “We laid down well over 1500 lineal metres of kerbing on that build. Due to it being a busy, high traffic central city site with lots of contractors on site and the public nearby we ensured health & safety protocols were strictly followed by our team at all times.” With almost 40 years in the industry Letton Kerb and Channel have proven themselves an asset to many civil works contractors, city and district councils, and private developers. They’ve completed kerbs, channels, footpaths, driveways and garden edging across a broad range of projects including maintenance contracts for the Christchurch City Council, the Christchurch Southern Motorway, SCIRT Rebuild work, Waterloo Business Park and an array of subdivisions and supermarkets in Canterbury, Otago and Blenheim. Letton Kerb and Channel completed all kerb and channel works at Riverstone subdivision off SH 75, Halswell in 2023 also. “We did all the footpaths too and the concrete traffic islands and garden planters. Another significant sized job there,” Riley says. “We’ll do it all when it comes to concrete kerbing. Both for the civil construction sector and the private sector,” Riley says. Aiming to improve efficiencies and reliability, Letton Kerb and Channel also purchased their own concrete mixer trucks in 2023. “Two of them” says Riley “That way we deliver to ourselves from the supplier. It’s more cost effective and gives control over when we want concrete and how we want it.”
