CONTRACTING Diverse Works T T Russell Fredric The nature is in the name of Wanaka earthworks business Diverse Works whose ongoing success and future is only as good as its last job, owner Nic Davies says. “It’s about the quality of our service; it’s not necessarily being the cheapest or getting a job done the fastest. It’s providing the service and a high quality of workmanship and producing the result our clients want that’s really important.” As well as the quality of the work, communication and delivering on promises is also key, not only in gaining repeat work and word of mouth referrals, but in creating pride for Nic and his team of four staff. “We don’t just treat our clients as just another number, we try to put ourselves in their shoes. Keeping our clients happy means they will get us back or recommend us to someone else, and the business that comes from word of mouth and recommendations between friends is quite considerable.” The investment of time that makes a difference between a reasonable job and a high quality result is what makes Diverse Works reputation stand out, Nic says. Having previously worked in construction, including with Diverse Works on some projects, Nic bought the business a year ago realising it was a great opportunity to purchase a well-established business. Diverse Works specialises in a variety of residential and commercial earthworks and landscaping services. These include site preparation covering excavation, building platforms and trenching, landscaping related work such as driveways, pathways, rock walls and anything else requiring the type of machinery it operates. Its fleet comprises two five tonne Kubota excavators, a 15 tonne Case excavator, a 15 tonne Case loader, two six wheel tip trucks, a roller and a four tonne skid steer Bobcat which is extremely useful in tight situations. Adding to the business’ diversity of operations, it has a processing plant that sorts material into three grades of gravel as well as having the ability to supply the schist and other rock materials from various quarries for landscaping and construction.
