BUILDING A decision to lock in Peter Ray Homes Nelson for your next build means securing a service that starts from the ground up. Nelson consultant and project manager Blair Kircher said the company prides itself on ensuring each client has the freedom to design and redesign their home, without any additional fees. A strong appreciation for the fact one size and one design does not fit or, at least, suit everyone, the team does not stop until it’s exactly what the client wants. “That’s why we offer homes that are designed and constructed to your unique needs and preferences,” he said. “Each home is purposely built for the client and section in mind.” Peter Ray Homes, which was established 30 years ago and has been in Nelson for 17 of those, understands that building a new home is a deeply personal experience. “It’s easy to feel that your only option is to choose a standard plan straight from a glossy brochure. “Often people don’t realise they can make their own changes to plans, or design a plan specific to them for the same cost as choosing straight from a brochure.” Blair said the team is dedicated to involving their clients in all facets of the build, something that was a huge point of difference for the company, but something it had always done. “It really allows clients to get exactly what they want right down to every detail, basically.” The majority of the team’s builds taking shape in the Nelson area at the moment are architecturally designed family homes. However, due to the current economic climate people are very budget conscious. As a result, they often work with the team to ensure their money is spent wisely with an end product that suits their needs. The company has had a range of builds take shape throughout the year, including a 150sqm cottage style home in Redwood Valley, and a 250sqm two-storey build in the Richmond Hills. Blair said Peter Ray Homes is very price competitive with the group volume builders - a category of build within Master Builders. “It’s easy to feel that your only option is to choose a standard plan straight from a glossy brochure. Often people don’t realise they can make their own changes to plans, or design a plan specific to them for the same cost as choosing straight from a brochure.” However, the client ends up with more than just a new build, he said. “They also get that personalised design and service, something we really pride ourselves on.” The Nelson branch has used the same builder for 16 of its 17 year history, with the majority of builds being one storey. One of those most recent builds is happening in Golden Bay, a new location for the company, which will start another build there in the new year. “So, we’re expanding our reach, building family homes and holiday homes.” Blair says 2023 was a “relatively quiet” year compared to the previous two, which was possibly due to building supply costs. “But, we’re lucky that we’ve had such long term trade relationships, which has allowed us to remain very competitive.” He said looking back on 2023 it had still been a good year, considering the market and the circumstances it had created.
