Primevue Construction BUILDING Aiming to be ‘masters of different’ involves Primevue Construction taking the road less travelled in residential construction, director Blair McCullough says. While the business’ location in Queenstown engenders the non-standard builds Blair has a passion for, he also highly values efficient construction methods and energy-efficient homes. “We call ourselves ‘masters of different’ because everything we do is not straightforward, not on flat land and not built with conventional methods.” A key part of Primevue Construction’s focus on build efficiency and creating high- performance homes is its relationship with SIP (structurally insulated panel) supplier Formance as a certified installer. “We are construction partners with Formance, so we are highly experienced in working with their products and work together with them with any technical questions, and always collaborate together with jobs.” Formance SIPs panels are high-performing, thermally efficient composite panels with a sandwich of two layers of structural oriented strand board and an insulating layer of foam in between. They can be used for walls, roofs, and floors in residential and commercial buildings. Creating a building envelope with SIP panels is much faster than conventional timber framing and insulation and creates much less waste, Blair says. “It’s made in a controlled environment, so everything you get is genuinely very, very accurate, whereas timber frames are usually not, so you spend a lot of time fixing them.” Part of the construction efficiency is that the aluminium joinery openings in the panels are precision precut by Formance. “For a 100sqm house, you can do all the external walls in a day and do the roof the next day, and you can be installing roofing iron on the third day.” Primeview Construction has completed a challenging high-end, five-unit development in Queenstown on a steep site in Highview Terrace. The units have four bedrooms and four bathrooms and feature vertical cedar complemented by a dark-toned vertical euro-profile colour, with the exterior and interior design elements varying between each unit. There are three bedrooms on the bottom level, one bedroom on the living-area level, all with their own bathrooms, while the garage is half a level above. The steepness of the site was challenging for access, as was accommodating the site’s drainage needs. Unsurprisingly, the stand-out feature of the units is their outlook. “Every bedroom has got an amazing view looking out over Wakatipu and the Remarkables. It’s a fantastic development, it’s awesome.” Blair and his partner Jess’ own home is built with SIPs panels and they love it so much they are about to build a new one based on SIPs construction. This type of construction is relatively new in New Zealand, compared to it having been in other countries for about 50 years, and while there is awareness about it in the industry, some builders tend to be set in their ways, but it is the perfect high-performance solution for the Central Otago climate, Blair says. “We are getting more traction, more enquiries about building with SIPs and it is the way forward.” SCAFFOLD EXPERTS Proudly Supporting Primevue Construction RESIDENTIAL | COMMERCIAL | SHRINK WRAPPING SAFETY NETS | EDGE PROTECTION | PROPPING SOLUTIONS MOBILE SCAFFOLDING | TEMPORARY ROOFING 027 730 0022 alisha@excelscaffolding.co.nz www.excelscaffolding.co.nz PROUDLY SUPPORTING PRIMEVUE CONSTRUCTION
