True Form Building T T Bernadette Cooney BUILDING North Canterbury-based True Form Building is a family-owned construction company with decades of residential and light-commercial building experience, and recently delivering several high-quality preschool construction projects that meet Ministry of Education standards. Established more than 22 years ago by licensed building practitioner and New Zealand Certified Builder, Carl Lange, True Form Building primarily specialises in new homes, residential renovation and light commercial. Carl has 37 years’ industry experience and oversees a small, skilled team of eight qualified builders with a commitment to communication, reliability and long-standing partnerships with clients, subcontractors, and architects. True Form Building is currently building a new preschool on Claridges Road, Casebrook in Christchurch North, one of eight new preschools True Form Building has completed across the city, says Carl. “Claridges Preschool is a two-storey, 1200sqm structure going up in Casebrook, and its neighbours are very excited about it,” says Carl. “An innovative preschool that includes a café within its design, encouraging parents to relax with a coffee while their children play or participate in sports at the adjacent green field park.” True Form Building, as the main contractor for this project, oversees every construction detail and coordinates subcontractors to get the end result. The design follows a traditional timber-framing method, incorporating both brick and James Hardie weatherboard cladding for durability and aesthetic appeal. The interior features specialised rooms tailored to different age groups, including sleep rooms, staffroom, meeting spaces and full commercial kitchen – ensuring the preschool caters to children, parents and staff alike. True Form Building’s focus on fulfilling specific MoE standards is evident in the construction approach, says Carl, with ventilation and heat-recovery systems installed to maintain fresh air flow and temperature regulation. “There are certain criteria we have to meet for MoE regulations around acoustics and soundproofing and the availability of natural light, that sort of thing, which are all standard MoE regulations that we’ve achieved on every project.” Claridges Preschool is expected to be completed about August next year, promising a valuable addition to the Casebrook community. Haswell Preschool is another project True Form Building recently completed for the same client, says Carl, an 850sqm preschool designed with similar features to the Claridges project. Although True Form Building has developed expertise in preschool construction, the company’s core business remains residential builds, ranging from new homes and renovations, decking and landscaping to specialised architectural projects. Carl provides expert project-management services, and the company has earned a reputation for consistent quality and a client-focused approach. “Our key differentiator lies in our commitment to communication, Carl emphasises. “It’s important in keeping clients informed and maintaining open lines of communication throughout each project.” True Form Building take pride is establishing trust through transparency, availability and regular updates, thus fostering long-lasting relationships. Additionally, True Form has established a reliable network of subcontractors and supply partners, allowing Carl’s team to efficiently manage projects across Christchurch and North Canterbury including from Darfield to Oxford and the Hurunui District.
