AM/PM Plumbing & Gas Ltd has proven that local businesses can successfully deliver major projects after securing its largest contract to date with Summerset Group's new retirement village development in Blenheim. After moving back home from Wellington in 2000, born and bred Blenheim man Phil Barrett initially operated as a sole trader but after rapid growth in his clientele realised he needed to employ sta and established AM/PM Plumbing & Gas Ltd. Phil and his team are managing all plumbing work for the residential side of the retirement village while also coordinating drainage, sub-contracting Lloyd Clarke and his crew from Lloyd’s Drainage. "It's been a great local project to work on and we're really proud to have played a part in delivering this great village to the community. We look forward to working on further stages," explains Michele Barrett, Phil’s wife who manages the administration side of the business. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Phil’s expertise has played an important part in the company’s success. “Phil's problem-solving abilities and extensive knowledge make him a valuable resource for builders, quantity surveyors and architects," says Michele. "The workmanship of our team is also exceptional and they are very e cient. That really sets us apart as it creates real cost savings for our clients.” Michele says that the company's name was chosen back in the day to secure a prime position in the Yellow Pages listings when it launched and has now become synonymous with quality workmanship in the region. While it primarily focuses on new builds, it also o ers a wide range of services including full residential services spanning hot water systems, bathrooms, repairs, complex under oor heating systems and solar installations to commercial work. The company’s skills have seen it tackle unusual jobs such as the work for an alcohol still for a gin room and putting in a snakeskin covered toilet. Michele says that no matter what size the job is the communication of the AM/PM Plumbing & Gas team is always a stand out. “Our tradesmen are all really great with clients, suppliers and the public. They represent the company in a really professional and approachable way” The company's commitment to quality and customer service has helped it maintain a loyal client base since its inception. "Most of our client base has been with us since the beginning and that says a lot," says Michele. Operating throughout the wider Marlborough area, AM/PM Plumbing & Gas takes pride in its personal approach to service. Despite growing to handle larger projects like the Summerset development, Phil remains hands-on, continuing to work on-site alongside his team. "Over the years Phil has built such a great rapport with his clients that they are happy for Phil to speak to their clients direct to ensure the best result. In Blenheim it's a small place and it's kept us busy no matter what the market. It's about putting people and the end result over and above the pro t margin" says Michele. As work progresses through the various stages of the Summerset village, AM/PM Plumbing & Gas continues to demonstrate that local expertise and personal service can successfully deliver major infrastructure projects while maintaining the high standards that have built its reputation over the past 19 years.
