DEVELOPMENT Base Contracting Ltd is a medium-sized civil contracting company, whose skilled team are making a big impact at Queenstown’s Hanley’s Farm subdivision. Working alongside the developer RCL Group, Base Contracting has been busy on site since 2018, delivering earthworks and civil works at this beautiful location near iconic Lake Wakatipu. Demand for a slice of the high-quality lifestyle sections on o er at Hanley’s Farm has been strong over recent months, with the vast majority of purchasers being young families. “Since 2018 we’ve been undertaking the bulk earthworks to reshape the ground, getting the roads and sections to subgrade level, as well as the civil works which involves sewer, stormwater, water, power and phone reticulation, road and footpath construction,” says Contracts Manager Scott Sutherland, of Base Contracting. “We are completing the bulk earthworks and sharing the civil works with Benchmark Construction.” Currently, the Base Contracting team is working on the ifth stage of earthworks and the second stage of civil works. “From the outset, we’ve been working closely with project engineers Stantec and between us we have a very positive and open working relationship with RCL Group.” This autumn season Base Contracting has some 20 sta on site on any given day, along with four to ive Base Contracting hard at work in key Queenstown growth area subcontractors. Up to 15 additional sta from Base are pulled in from time to time to supplement the site team, as required. Base Contracting has an extensive plant leet to support every job, including Komatsu excavators, dozers, graders, rollers, Mercedes trucks and various small plant and utilities equipment. “It’s neat for our team to be a part of this key growth area for Queenstown where accommodation is needed, especially for that irst home market. We’re quite aware of that need and the pressure that’s on us to make this development happen in a timely and professional way.
