From April 1 the franchise was renamed Jennian Homes Central Otago and Queenstown with Queenstown Carpenters owner Mark Carter joining existing directors Carl, Shane Hamilton and Dallas Tither as an additional director and the franchise’s general manager. Even though the company has had a significant presence in Queenstown and the surrounding area during the past 10 years having built well over 100 homes, the time felt right to partner with local builder Mark Carter and increase the local presence, while there are also synergies and strategic advantages in Mark, who has lived in Queenstown for more than 20 years, joining the business, Carl says. “We have set up the joint venture to be able to spread our network and really concentrate with sales in the Central Otago market.” Mark is well known to the franchise as Queenstown Carpenters has been contracted as a Jennian Homes builder in Central Otago and Queenstown for the past seven years and will continue to do so. Carl, Shane and Mark are excited to see the recent opening of Jennian’s newest show home in Hanley’s Farm as well as also having a number of homes in progress in the subdivision. Hanley’s Farm is a large-scale 1750 lot development on 561 hectares, situated between the foot of The Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. Accessed by State Highway 6, Hanley’s Farm is a convenient 10 minute drive from Frankton, where Queenstown’s airport is located along with several large retail developments. Now well established after several years of development, Hanley’s Farm incorporates excellent amenities and open spaces where children can enjoy a “free-range” childhood within a safe community with plenty of parks and playgrounds. “It’s been a good few years, with Hanley’s Farm providing a good number of builds, it’s been really good for us,” Carl says. Jennian’s new “house and income” show home on Jack Hanley drive incorporates a separate unit; the main house has three bedrooms and the unit one bedroom, complete with bathroom and kitchen. “Most of the houses in Hanley’s Farm are going that way; a lot of people that we are building for are doing the house and income type of apartment. Accommodation demand dropped off just after covid, but it’s really come back quite strong due to the lack of accommodation in Central Otago.” The show home features a pavilion design that aptly reflects the mountain environment it is situated in, while also offering a balance of stylish and functional elements in its interior design, Carl says. “It has a great outlook for the living area and a nice private barbecue alfresco outdoor area; There’s good indoor-outdoor flow. It’s all open plan living which then goes to a master bedroom with an ensuite.” The interior design is a pleasing mix of complementary materials, texture and colour while the exterior cladding comprises warm-toned vertical timber, contrasted by a dark-toned plaster system which incorporates external insulation into the cladding. Despite the real estate downturn that is starting to impact much of New Zealand, the Central Otago market is still quite buoyant, Carl says. “It’s pretty solid at the moment, the enquiry is still really high.” Jennian Homes is New Zealand’s most awarded building company in the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.
