112 | On track at Hawthorndale Hawthorndale Care Village will offer in stage one 10 well-specified villas with a right-to-occupy lease agreement. T T from page 110 The Hawthorndale Care Village LIFESTYLE Overall, $10 million of funding has come from various donors and fundraising activities during the past four years, while the balance has been derived from a Community Trust South loan, bank funding and a loan from O’Donnell Family Investments. This support and level of funding means the trustees have not had to compromise on their vision to create one of the best facilities of its kind in New Zealand, Helen says. “It has always been about doing better for people in aged-care and particularly people with dementia.” The village’s landscape design is a key element of the project and has recognised the importance of creating a garden-like environment. This is reflected in spaces that provide seating for resting, relaxing, contemplation and catching up with friends and family, while communal and private patios are provided to cater for the mixed use of the development. Also included will be courtyard seating areas, gardens, open lawns, bird feeders, art areas, raised garden beds, water features and vegetable gardens. Fun time with grandchildren has also been considered through the provision of a playground. For independent living, Hawthorndale Care Village will offer in stage one 10 well-specified villas with a right-to-occupy lease agreement. Thoughtfully designed right down to the smallest detail, the 106 square metre villas are both well apportioned and well specified, with the freedom to come and go as residents please. Each has two bedrooms, open plan lounge, dining and kitchen equipped with high-spec appliances, featuring oven, hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. They also come with a designated car park, an internal access garage from each unit, plus on-site security and an emergency call bell. Residents can simplify their daily routine with an optional laundry package, which includes a washer and dryer. There is also the option of the added convenience of supplementary services such as freshly prepared meals served each day from the café, special outings and trips of interest, and villa cleaning services, The villas are expected to be completed in July with a showhome available for viewing from mid-March. All villa residents will have access to emergency support, healthcare and other professionals and priority access to the care houses if needed. The villas are duplex units and are being sold by Ray White Invercargill starting from $585,000. Hawthorndale Care Village will employ a total of about 120 staff over a 24 hour period when fully operational, about 10 to 15 more than currently employed at Calvary. “One of the big things for the board and for the project team was the idea that if somebody’s needing care, your loved one could be in a care house and you could still be close to each other and still spend time together without feeling like you’re having to live separately. That’s been quite important for us,” says Helen. “It’s for the public to come in and use it as well so we want it to be a community space for all people to come and enjoy.” S U P P O R T I N G T H E H A W T H O R N D A L E C A R E V I L L A G E Building Southland for over 50 years We Specialise In All Types Of - Commercial Construction - Design & Builds Maintenance Work - Residential Housing 78 Otepuni Avenue, PO Box 6051, Invercargill 9812 Invercargill 03 216 9002 | Queenstown 03 442 1311 Email: info@hendersonconstruction.co.nz www.hendersonconstruction.co.nz Building Contractors Since 1970 HCL HENDERSON CONSTRUCTION LTD
