Business South May 2024

Value & quality with Bennett Homes Bennett Homes director Aaron Bennett believes his company’s track record and the ability to provide both value and quality contributed to winning the contract to build 10 villas for Hawthorndale Care Village. Aaron says he is delighted and grateful that his company is part of a project creating a unique facility in Invercargill with a special focus on dementia care while also providing independent living options. Although Bennett Homes is a relative newcomer to the south, its credibility and some synergies with Hawthorndale Care Village have made it a special project for the company. Bennett Homes is a major partner of the Southland Stags, and Hawthorndale Care Village was the Stags jersey charity partner for the 2023 season. There are also shared values and a sense of mission between the two, Aaron says. Aaron opened the Invercargill branch following a family trip to Invercargill and was surprised at the opportunities he could see in the region which included a gap in the market for smaller, more a ordable homes on standard sized residential sections. “The whole point of why we decided to start up in Southland is because we could see our product and who we are and what we o er was genuinely going to add value in the community.” He believes this ability to be competitive without comprising quality contributed to winning the contract to build the 10 villas. “We really appreciate the opportunity and that Hawthorndale Care Village and their board put their trust in us to do the job. It’s been a privilege for us to do that and the feedback we’ve had is they’re really pleased.” When completed, the village will have 86 care beds across 13 houses, and 26 independent living villas of which Bennett Homes are building 10 in the irst stage. The 106 square metre villas comprise four units and three duplexes for which the design was already provided. “As a part of the tender process, we used these designs to price the project. We also collaborated with the designers to bring about material and speci ication cost savings changes to add further value to the project.” “They are very well speci ied villas, and features include tile bathrooms and stone bench tops, adding class to these nicely inished villas.” A showhome is expected to be available for viewing early April with completion of the balance of the villas programmed for July. Aaron says he and the Bennett Homes team have enjoyed working with Nick and Regan from Maxis Projects, along with the Hawthorndale Care Village sta and its board of trustees, who have coordinated the project “incredibly well” throughout.
