| 35 CONTRACTING BG Contracting BG Contracting (BGCL) completed 481 residential lots in a little over twelve months at Hughes Development’s Farringdon Westwood subdivision in Rolleston. When Mainland Pipeline Inspections’ Managing Director Anthony Charlton re lects on the success of the company he founded two decades ago, he has absolutely no hesitation in saying that it is all about his team. “We have a crew that actually cares about what they do. I’ve been doing this for quite a while now and the quality of our sta and their attention to detail is what helps us get the projects we get.” Christchurch based, the company’s origins stem back to 1996 when it started life as a drainlaying business. Anthony says that at that time CCTV technology was emerging and his company did a lot of work with Rainbow Video, which was essentially a camera and waterblast business. The opportunity to buy that business in 2004 was the beginning of a new chapter for Anthony’s business, transitioning from drainlaying to a 100% focus on ‘clean and camera’ operations, and establishing Mainland Pipeline Inspections. “We’ve progressively evolved from doing mainly residential work to now specialising in commercial projects for Councils and contractors far and wide including BG Contracting. A year ago, we completed a two-year inspection contract with Christchurch City Council, and we’re in the middle of a three-year maintenance contract with the Waimakariri District Council. Our Mainland Pipeline Inspections core business is ‘clean and camera’ pipelines, but we will clean and camera any conduit whatsoever. Every length of pipe or manhole that goes into the ground for a subdivision development that is vested in Council has to be inspected and pass a Council speci ication. We waterblast the pipeline or manhole to remove any stones or debris and check for undulations, then ilm it and hand the footage to the contractor, who submits it to Council for signo . We also provide hydro excavation to locate services, rather than risk using a shovel or excavator.” Mainland Pipeline Inspections also has a reputation for taking on those challenging projects that others might shy away from. “We will inspect anything if we’re able to get a camera into a space, and that might include designing a special camera and lighting rig that will enable us to inspect very long, dark and potentially dangerous cavities. I’m always keen to talk to clients about how they want things done, and what they want to accomplish, then ind a way of achieving that for them. Doing whatever it takes to help a client get across the line has always been my mantra.” While Anthony and his team predominantly operate throughout the South Island, Mainland Pipeline Inspections is always willing to discuss how they can assist clients nationwide. Using the best in digital camera technology we can inspect every inch of the pipe in detail. We can detect, locate new and/or existing pipelines and buried services. • CCTV of pipelines from 40mm up to and over 2.0m in diameter. • Waterblast cleaning of multiple sized pipelines. • Hydro Excavation • Vacuum removal of waste. (sucker truck). • Laser profiling of pipelines from 150mm to 1800mm • Pan & tilt cameras to inspect features and faults in minute detail. • Manual push cameras to inspect smaller lines or hill sites where vehicle access may be an issue. • Our cameras can be traced in the pipeline using sonar locators. This is particularly helpful when attempting to find problems underground. 03 982 0954 | mainland@pipelineinspections.co.nz 3 Foula Pl, Christchurch | www.pipelineinspections.co.nz
