T T to page 44 For half a century drainlayers GN Brewer Ltd has been proudly serving the needs of Cantabrians. As the company marks its 50th anniversary, it’s not just a milestone but also a testament to resilience, commitment and the enduring power of family-owned businesses, says company managing director Deane Brewer. “Reaching 50 years is certainly an achievement,” he says. “Our focus has always been on quality and making sure the job is done right first time. That’s helped us to create a good reputation and many long standing clients.” Established in 1974 by Deane’s parents Grant and Sue Brewer, GN Brewer Ltd began as a modest venture, rooted in the simple yet essential task of drainlaying. Grant, with his expertise in the field, and Sue, managing the administrative side, laid the groundwork for the business. Deane says that their dedication to quality workmanship and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction set the stage for decades of success. As the years rolled by GN Brewer Ltd flourished under the careful stewardship of the Brewer family. In 1998, Grant and Sue began contemplating retirement, paving the way for the next generation to take the reins. Deane and long-term employee Vaughan Snowdon stepped up to carry forward the legacy of excellence that Grant and Sue had built and took over full ownership of the business in 2005 when Grant and Sue retired. With the transition of leadership came a seamless integration of family values into the company’s ethos. Deane and Vaughan today manage the business co-jointly and their wives Rachel and Merissa head the administration team along with Vaughan’s daughter Ashleigh. Deane’s son Eli has just started working in the business and will soon begin his apprenticeship. Deane says that GN Brewer Ltd isn’t just a business; it is a testament to their family’s dedication to serving the community. His words echo the sentiments of many within the GN Brewer Ltd family – a tight-knit team bound not just by professional obligations but also by a shared sense of purpose. At the heart of GN Brewer Ltd’s success lies its unwavering commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, says Deane. With a team boasting over 100 years of combined experience, the company has earned a reputation for excellence in clearing blocked drains and providing comprehensive drainage solutions. From routine maintenance to complex repair strategies, GN Brewer Ltd has consistently delivered results that exceed expectations. Deane says that GN Brewer has always specialised in residential jobs and fault finding and full repair strategies for the Christchurch City Council. “We have worked directly as an Approved Contractor for the Council for probably 40 years and are accredited with EQC. There is still a lot of drainage work that needs to be done in Christchurch both due to the earthquakes and also aging infrastructure.” The company’s foresight and adaptability were evident in its early adoption of innovative technologies such as CCTV pipe inspection and pipe bursting. By staying ahead of the curve, GN Brewer Ltd positioned itself as a leader in the industry, capable of tackling the unique challenges posed by Christchurch’s terrain and infrastructure.
