46 | Experience an asset for busy firm Wagener Construction specialises in residential and commercial concrete work. Wagener Construction T T Russell Fredric Wagener Construction provides a high level of professionalism backed by credentials uncommon among concrete placers. In addition to specialising in residential and commercial concrete work, including largescale work, the Invercargill-based company also undertakes small building projects. Wagener Construction was established last year by husband and wife team Hunnter and Annabelle Wagener and has quickly grown to employ four staff, in addition to winning some significant contracts. The company and Hunnter himself are backed by impressive credentials. The importance of engaging a credible and skilled concrete contractor cannot be overstated when working with a material that does not allow for second chances, Hunnter says. “I’ve been doing this work for close to 17 years now. We pride ourselves with being a professional company and that applies to everything we do from our uniform, branding on our vehicles, our presentation on site and the way that we leave a site. “I think that goes a long way, but obviously you’ve got to follow that up with the quality of your workmanship work as well.” Hunnter has extensive experience in residential and large-scale commercial projects in New Zealand and Australia. Early last year he completed an adult building apprenticeship in just two-and-a-half years. Consequently, he is both a qualified builder and a licensed building practitioner, while Wagener Construction is a New Zealand Certified Builders and a New Zealand Concrete Contractors Association member in addition to being an Invercargill City Council approved contractor. While Hunnter enjoyed building, he loves the fast-paced nature and variety concrete placing offers. He worked in Australia for a contractor on the $1.6 billion Toowoomba bypass, and in New Zealand as a foreman on the Transmission Gully motorway on State Highway 1 north of Wellington on the abutment and curb and channel aspects of the project. “Proud to be supporting our clients and helping them to achieve their goals.” Amanda Morris Email: amanda@hammonddavidson.co.nz Phone: 03 202 7508 Cell: 027 430 1012 Email: admin@mcgregorconcrete.co.nz Free phone 0800 225 850 • Phone plant 03 225 8503 MCGREGORS ReadyMix Concrete &Gravel CONTRACTING Hunnter’s credentials and experience are proving to be an asset, both in the type of work that Wagener Construction can confidently tackle and in creating confidence in clients and potential clients. “Qualifying as a builder has been a massive help, especially with construction and doing foundations from start to finish. We have a good rapport with builders as well; they understand that we’ve got good knowledge in the areas we work in.” Hunnter explains the difference between a reasonably good concrete job and one completed to the highest standard lies in the preparation. This includes careful ground preparation, accuracy of levels and falls, overall attention to detail and finishing, and having an accurate knowledge of various building code requirements. In the short time it has been operating, Wagener Construction have won some valuable commercial contracts. A recent contract was for agricultural machinery supplier JJ Limited Invercargill which is having a new tractor and machinery sales and service centre constructed at Lorneville. Wagener Construction completed the foundation and the 2,500 square metre floor slab for the building on its highly visible site. ‘It’s been awesome to work on a project for such a reputable company and it has been a great experience for our team. “I can see us doing more commercial work, so it’s a great success for us.” “Qualifying as a builder has been a massive help, especially with construction and doing foundations from start to finish. “
