56 | Hands-on approach to design Based in Christchurch, Fortune Architecture works New Zealand wide covering residential new builds, renovations and commercial projects. Fortune Architecture T T Karen Phelps ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Architectural designer Scott Fortune from Fortune Architecture is the perfect combination: an architect with hands on building experience. He says this informs his approach, delivering designs that are not only beautiful and meet the client brief but also practical and on budget. Scott started his practice two years ago after having worked in other practices in New Zealand and London where he spent time on super-prime residential homes and retail projects within the renowned Harrods department store in Knightsbridge. He has completed a joinery apprenticeship and has building construction experience. Watching projects become disjointed as they exchanged hands throughout the process inspired him to start a practice where he leads a project from initial discussion right through to the finished build, managing every touch point in between. “I felt I could offer clients more value, guiding them through the process of designing their home from scratch. When working with Fortune Architecture people receive a hands-on approach and always work directly with me,” explains Scott. “It’s the time and consideration I give that makes the difference and I only take on projects I can fully invest my time in.” Based in Christchurch, Fortune Architecture works New Zealand wide covering residential new builds, renovations and commercial projects. Coming from a construction background, Scott is well equipped to guide people on the journey ensuring each project runs seamlessly from start to finish. His expertise in this area also aids cost efficient design with a sound knowledge of what is achievable in a practical sense for the site and budget. Communication is a vital aspect of the process and Scott takes pride in being transparent, open and approachable. “It’s about forming good relationships and delivering a great overall experience.” This has seen Fortune Architecture work on a wide variety of projects from high-spec residential builds to home renovations and multi-unit dwellings including currently a project in Nelson and, in Christchurch, a new build in Moncks Bay, a large renovation in Mt Pleasant and a new home in Isobel Matson Lane in Cashmere Estate. The latter project came about through a connection from a friend. “The client had never built a home before so it was about taking them through every step. It was a sloped site so we explored different design considerations. It was important to the client to be able to accommodate family from out of town and entertain,” says Scott. This led to a five bedroom 300sqm home clad in metal profile and brick, which offers two living areas and an expansive open plan kitchen/dining/living area with raked ceiling and skylights flowing to a covered outdoor area. Further afield a project in Geraldine has just started construction. “The ridgeline of the roof runs diagonally across, which adds a great form to the design. Everything is under the one roof including covered carport and storage,” explains Scott. Back in Christchurch as the city builds up Fortune Architecture is working on several townhouse developments. • New builds & Alterations • Building Inspections • Site soil Investigations • Earthquake Assessments • Light Commercial • Education • Agricultural Structures • Civil Engineering www.rcengineers.co.nz 03 347 1624 design2.co.nz C O M M E R C I A L L I F E S T Y L E R E S I D E N T I A L Proud supporter of Fortune Architecture 0274 451 1486
