DEVELOPMENT Jumpsuit Properties A new townhouse development in the Christchurch suburb of Linwood is providing something a bit unique as well as affordable housing options for the city. The development on England Street in Linwood, being undertaken by Jumpsuit Properties, includes four townhouses. The front townhouse is a two-bedroom apartment with a secure carpark, with an 82sqm footprint. The two townhouses in the middle have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and garages, with a 128sqm footprint. The back townhouse is a two-bedroom garaged unit at 103sqm. Jumpsuit properties owner James O’Connor said there were several different options available depending on budgets and preferences. Prices start from $549,000. “They are all very generous sized with large north facing courtyards. “I think these townhouses could cater to many different purchasers from first home buyers to families being attracted to the three bedrooms.” James said the company managed to acquire the property through a letterbox drop. The townhouses were designed with the needs of the market in mind, he said. “I wanted to do something different with this development, which is why I decided to have a couple of two and three bed options along with garages which the market is looking for currently. “The city has a need for housing in general, and being able to offer something different helps.” He said the homes had eye-catching design elements that were unique to the city. “The mono pitch roof at the front adds street appeal and something not seen in other developments in the area.” James believes car parking is the key to townhouse design. “Christchurch shouldn’t be building entire blocks of units without car parking. We just don’t have the public transport infrastructure to allow people to not have cars. “Yes, there are certainly some purchasers looking for no car park townhouses but not to the extent that Christchurch has seen.” Jumpsuit Properties was originally set up in 2014 as a long term hold residential investment company. It was after a stint overseas where he sold up everything before leaving, and on return started a building company. This had led into buying as is where is property to repair and on-sell, he said. He then moved into townhouse development. The company currently has three developments underway at different stages and is on the lookout for more land to purchase. “We don’t market ourselves as a brand. We tend to fly under the radar concentrating on getting the builds completed - (which is) what we are good at, (and then) handing them on when completed to an experienced agent to do what they are good at.” The company has more developments lined up, but is not looking to expand its operation too much. “In the future we will most likely stay about the size we are now. Completing two to three developments a year is enough to keep me busy without the stress of employing staff and having too much land and lending when the market changes. “But who knows what’s around the corner? I never thought I’d be doing the developments to the extent that I am currently.” Specialising in all aspects of solid and modi ied plastering systems since 2001.
