With no-compromise quality being at the core of every job, it turned out to be a good decision and four years on Motueka Contracting is well established in the region undertaking a wide range of ground work and concrete contracting. Karl runs the business with his wife Jodi who has a key role in administration, accounts, and client liaison. In starting the business, Karl also saw a gap in the market which was dominated by larger companies, but there were some rocky moments due to the covid pandemic hitting not long after it launched, however they successfully navigated through it and have never looked back. “It was just me to start with, I just bought a digger and a truck,” Karl says. He started by doing house sites, drainage work and general excavation, but concrete placing has now become a big part of the workload. This includes house and shed foundations and oors, driveways, patios, paths and anything concrete. The concrete contracting was not planned, but developed organically as well as through referrals from another contractor who o oaded work when he was too busy. Consequently Motueka Contracting now has a very useful variety of equipment comprising a 14 tonne digger that is dry hired for larger jobs, a multi-purpose Posi-Track skid steer with a Harley rake/laser grader, six tonne and 1.7 tonne excavators and four trucks. A key advantage of this versatility of equipment combined with the type of work Motueka Contracting can handle is its ability to complete a job from start to nish, especially concrete placing, without the need for a second contractor. It also means the client gets just one invoice. Based on this integrity and high standards, Motueka Contracting has long standing relationships with its loyal client base. The business continues to grow and Karl is always looking at options and ideas for the future. He is extremely grateful and overwhelmed by the support of his clients. “It’s very rewarding to be able to make clients visions a reality. I’m very proud of our sta and none of this would be possible without them, especially Jodi. She does all the hard yards behind the scenes.” Quality contracting is a team effort
