Rhys, who is the owner/director of Inscope Building Services, joined the New Zealand Certified Builders Association a year ago, which has allowed him to unlock a range of opportunities, benefiting his career and business. As a member of the association, Rhys is able to access certified plans, while also building connections with other industry experts. New Zealand Certified Builders was established by a group of trade qualified builders in 1998, with the aim of creating a network of experts that would protect homeowners from unqualified builders and unethical practices. So far it has provided Rhys with support and connections with other like-minded people, a perfect solution for the team who is based in Greymouth. “Joining certified builders has been the best thing, really,” Rhys said. Rhys, who has been in the industry for the past 21 years, started out as an apprentice as soon as he left school. He went on to establish Inscope Building Services and now has two other builders on his team, including an apprentice, who came on board at the start of the year. He is grateful for the team he now has, having faced challenges finding people keen to do the work, particularly those wanting to complete an apprenticeship.
