Dawn Construction T T Kelly Deeks “Our systems are tight, and when we need to, we’ll throw a couple more guys on the job to keep things moving without ever compromising on quality.” BUILDING In a competitive building market flooded with large firms and profit-first operations, a new name is making waves for all the right reasons. Christchurch-based Dawn Construction, a young company with a big vision, is proving that passion, integrity, and a hands-on approach still have a powerful place in the construction industry. Founded just over a year ago by long-time friends and co-owners Henry Bithray and Sam Milne, Dawn Construction is already earning a reputation for quality work, genuine client relationships, and an enthusiasm for the craft that sets them apart. With a combined 35 years of experience covering nearly every facet of the construction industry, Henry and Sam have created something more than just a building company, they have built a team culture where pride in the job always comes first. “We love what we do,” says Henry. “For Sam and me, it’s not about the money, it’s about the job. “We’re both on the tools with our guys every day. That’s how we work, and that’s how we stay connected to every one of our projects.” That dedication has led Dawn Construction to take on a wide variety of jobs, from new builds and renovations to shop fit-outs and multi-unit developments. One current project on Wyon Street in Linwood involves the construction of three new townhouses behind an existing home for a client that happens to be a first-time residential developer, and a real estate agent. The job, though challenging, is progressing at lightning speed. “We’re flying through it,” Henry says. “Our systems are tight, and when we need to, we’ll throw a couple more guys on the job to keep things moving without ever compromising on quality.” Access issues and on-site logistics haven’t slowed them down, either. When power lines and a pole interfered with the site layout, they coordinated removals to enhance both functionality and street appeal. For Dawn Construction, every client relationship is a partnership. “This is the first development for our real estate agent client, so we’re doing everything we can to make sure it’s a smooth and positive experience. “We’ve even helped pick out kitchen finishes. That’s just how we operate. We’re not about cutting corners or chasing the cheapest quote. “We care about quality and making sure our clients are proud of their homes.” In addition to private clients, Dawn Construction also partners with larger industry players. T hey currently provide labour-only packages to Brendan Murray Construction, 2023’s fastest-growing construction firm. It’s relationships like these, built on trust and consistent results, which have helped Dawn Construction stay busy, even as the market slows down. Despite the saturated Christchurch building scene post-earthquakes, Henry and Sam remain committed to their vision of operating a small and passionate company doing things the right way. “We’re humble guys, but we’re proud of our work,” Henry says. “People don’t have to go with the big-name builders. “We’re here, and we’re building something better, one project at a time.” With a passionate and close-knit team, and a future-focused mindset, Dawn Construction is lighting a new path in Canterbury’s construction industry.
