C Marshall Builders BUILDING Word-of-mouth referrals are a great asset to Dunedin builder Craig Marshall, but picking up a new-house build from his business Facebook page was entirely unexpected. “I didn’t know [the enquirer], but they were friends of friends. It was very surprising to get a new build through Facebook,” Craig says. Craig and his wife Jess have owned C Marshall Builders, for 10 years. Craig has 25 years’ experience in the trade. He and his team of six have expertise in bespoke new builds, complex and simple renovations, and minor maintenance work. The new-house build is a sprawling, architecturally designed home in Fairfield on an elevated site. It is on a footprint of 199sqm, and comprises three angled sections that essentially form a half-hexagon shape. The slope of the site meant substantial ground works and back-fill were required to create the building platform, work that was completed by a subcontractor. “It blends in and sits there nicely looking over a pond and garden down the bottom. It’s beautifully sheltered,” says Craig. The exterior cladding is a combination of black-stained vertical larch fixed with stainless steel nails and dark brown XpressClad panels in the centre section providing complementary texture and colour. The interior design is functional and unpretentious, but has some nice architectural touches. The open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area is stepped down from the rest of the house and provides a great family space. It features a full-height plastered fireplace, which perfectly complements the polished concrete floors throughout. The hallway along the full length of the rear of the house leads to the bedrooms and bathrooms, which are fully tiled with stylish, light-beige finger tiles, with the main bathroom having a deep tub, cylindrical basin and tiled window reveals. “It’s the fine details that make the difference,” Craig says. This attention to detail also applies to the renovations and alterations that Craig and his team do. A recent small renovation created an immensely appealing antique-style bathroom with gloss white tiles, contrasting black, grey and white floral-patterned floor vinyl, a shower, and an old-fashioned bath tub with silver-clawed feet that beckons a long soak with a book and a glass of wine. A renovation, whether for a bathroom or kitchen, or a comprehensive makeover, can be a great option, Craig says. “You are adding to the value and saleability, which is a big thing, but also what you are getting is more warmth and comfort as well. “By the time you add the insulation, heating and fixtures in a bathroom and a new kitchen you are not only creating great spaces, but something to enjoy for years to come. “We like to pride ourselves on the quality of our work. I hate come-backs, it’s better to make sure it’s done right first time.” This genuine commitment to quality, detail and clients’ needs and dreams continues to pay dividends, even in a challenging construction economy. “We’ve had quite a good workload and plenty coming up as well so it’s going really good.” Proudly supporting CMarshall Builders Ltd (03) 474 00 11 Bringing Vision to Life in Every Pane! € ‚ Chris Lamb ELECTRICIAN M 0278740870 E cjlelectrical@outlook.com Proud to support CMarshall Builders - New builds - Renovations - Re wires - Switchboard upgrades - Light commercial - Electrical servicing PLACEMAKERS DUNEDIN & MOSGIEL PLACEMAKERSDUNEDIN & MOSGIEL 50 BURNS ST & 34 CARNCROSS ST (03) 466 4617 PROUDLY SUPPORTING
